Unknown brand in France... 🤔

Who writes this copy. I've never in my lifetime compared a watch to a swan. Maybe Black Swan for a G-shock tactical but seriously. How does one get that job?

"René Mouris is a watchmaker brand based in Paris. The story behind the brand goes back to 1975 when watchmaker Mr. René Javier Mouris, driven by his passion for horology, started sketching designs of watches he wanted to see on the wrist of people. The situation remained the same for quite a while, until one cold night in 2007, when an entrepreneur impressed by Mr. René’s work showed interest in bringing his love and labor to fruition, eventually leading to the genesis of René Mouris". Or at least, that's what they say. I don't know if there would be any legal repercussions of them labeling their watches as "Fabrique en France" if that's not true? They could be assembled in France. Of course the movement is a Seiko and not in house. Looks to be a decent microbrand, at least so it seems. An automatic "French" watch with a Seiko movement and a nice design for $200 looks like a decent deal. Please someone tell me why I shouldn't order it so that I don't go spending even more money on stuff I don't need haha.

If this is all true then they are blatantly lying about the "Made in France" badge and should get sued.

MrJAMS "Rene Mouris" is a French phrase that when translated into English means: "blatantly lying." In Mandarin, the same expression translates roughly to: "thirty-dollar watch selling for $160"

Hmm...maybe, just maybe, the name of that watch originates from France--I'll give 'em that--plenty of French kids named René running around the mean streets of Marseille, but the movement certainly didn't. There ain't no Seiko assembly facility on the Left Bank! As for the case, crystal and strap--those elements are about as authentically French, as the French food one typically finds in any good, Chinese restaurant. That reminds me of a time in London, when I too was searching for good French watches at a certain Chinese restaurant I'd heard about. I realized I was on the right track when suddenly... "I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walking through the streets of SoHo in the rain
He was looking for the place called Lee Ho Fooks
For to get a big dish of beef chow mein" Unfortunately, I lost him in the crowd and never found that restaurant, but as luck would have it, the next day... "Well, I saw Lon Chaney walking with the Queen
Doin' the werewolves of London
I saw Lon Chaney Junior walking with the Queen, uh!
Doin' the werewolves of London
I saw a werewolf drinkin' a piña colada at Trader Vic's
And his hair was perfect!" Moral of story: "...don't go mistaking France, for that less expensive watch-producing country on the other side of the street."

I’m looking at this watch and something immediately jumps out at me. No, it’s not the normal disposable watch junk, it’s something much more interesting. The NH37 is a version of the Seiko movements we all know, but with a 24 hour hand. This is not a gmt hand or independently settable, it’s supposed to track the regular hour hand but just on a 24 hour scale - 10 am is 10, 10 pm is 22:00, etc. Now look at the pictures. Either these pictures are just renders in which case they didn’t know enough to make the 24 hr hand appear where it should (either 10 or 22 given the watch is showing 10:10), or these are photos of actual watches that they assembled wrong. One of those is just sloppy, the other is just stupid. Well, stupid and hilarious. But still stupid. Stop buying disposable watches, as they’re cheap for a reason. That reason is no quality control. See above. You’re welcome. Edit: in picture number 2, the 24 hour hand reflects 22 so I’m hoping it’s mistake #1 with photoshop renders, but I still wouldn’t risk my own money on it.

Scratch resistant mineral crystal? Nope. If you want to sell me on being graceful and elegant, show it in your details. Ok for a starter watch, not worth it for me...

After doing some digging. They offer cheaper Quartz models that don't have the "Fabrique en France" label on them. So my guess is that those are made in Hong Kong (as they do have offices there, as well as France and Portugal). While the more expensive automatic models are at least assembled in France? Makes sense?

Seems reasonable value, NH35 automatic is a good movement. Reminds me of "Georgio Fendon" watch range. Nice dial detailing and appears some lume on hands and at indices markers. Compared to recent offerings - not too bad.

I have gone with the grey rally strap for now, courtesy of Sydney strap company, but I didn't mind the black "quilted" leather strap courtesy of "Geckota", it came on the C-03 watch. But I have ordered four more straps including a dark brown perforated leather strap, again courtesy of Sydney strap company. For the first time i now have many more straps than watches!! Little things amuse little brains I guess!!!
