Product Description
The diffusion line of a renowned Scotland-based mill, Royal Speyside employs traditional methods and machinery to produce knitwear reminiscent of the Scottish Borders area. Which makes sense: The mill has been producing textiles here, on the banks of the River Teviot, for more than 140 years Read More
As I've noted previously, I lived in Scotland for quite some time and had many Royal Speyside products that I loved. High quality at a reasonable price made by people who are proud of their work. You'll love this throw.
I travel to Scotland and usually buy several scarves from this vendor when I'm there to give as gifts when I get home. I've never had a complaint from any of my friends save one, who has extremely sensitive skin (as in allergic to all kinds of things). Their wool is far beyond anything you would find on a rack in the states.
Does anyone own this throw who can speak about potential itchiness or static build up? Can we maybe get more involvement from vendors or Massdrop employees to speak about the products? So many drops consist of the blind leading the blind!
NotaDrHaven't had any itchy or static issues. Kept us warm during son's graduation (an unusually chilly Kansas May night of about 40 F), and now my son sleeps under it nightly.
Royal Speyside is appears to be a (budget?) division/subsidiary/line of Johnstons of Elgin. They seem to produce solely wool based products using lambswool, cashmere, angora, etc. They have had several moderately successful drops here although the only other lambswool product that I know of was their tartan scarves which didn't do well since a cashmere version had dropped a few months before and subsequently had no user reviews in the discussion. For their lambswool products I've found reviews of the previously mentioned scarves on Amazon UK but nothing about Speyside branded throws. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00O34YU82/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1490700168&sr=8-2&pi=SL75&keywords=royal+speyside
I hope that was semi helpful.
I don't get how it's cheaper for me to buy one of these from massdrop(shipping both ways over the Atlantic) than it is to actually make the short trip to the local distributor for these scarves in Scotland and buy one. Boggles the mind.
warriorscotI went to Scotland and was hoping to buy a nice wool sweater over there and one sales lady told me that I should order one from Lands' End (this was well before the Sear's debacle.) Also, I moved from Florida to North Carolina and found the orange juice cheaper in NC. Strange how it works.
at 55$ this is a really good deal, the throw is exceptional quality... i ended up paying CA 130$ in total and its not worth that to me at all, simply because i wouldn't spend that much on a blanket.I paid 35$ just on import tax because both Canada post and DHL feel entitled to money. If you are in US and the shipping is cheap, jump on this drop.
Alex5467The product from the link you provide shows that the Fabric is 84% wool, 16% nylon and it doesn't say what kind of wool is used as for the Royal Speyside it says 100% lambswool.
Any chance more units will become available for certain color choices? I'm very interested in the multi block check in particular but looks like I hopped on too late.
blouie:( bought 2 in a prior drop, was hoping to snag another 2 in multi-overcheck with the tan/dark pattern. would go nice with my room that's all black metal/reclaimed wood
Nice soft wool and works great as a napping on the couch blanket even if a little thinner than expected. The fringe is included in the advertised length so keep that in mind. At the price this dropped it was a steal.
