Why the extremely limited frequency response? 16KHz limit will effectively destroy the airiness of recorded content. color me unimpressed with a bullet.

tunejunkyexcept that 16K is more than sufficient to deliver the 'air' sensation you describe. My $800 Oriolus Mk2 (as do many, many, if not most IEMs) have the same falloff after 10K. I used to think the same thing because I have verified hearing up to 16K in one ear and 18K in my other ear (special audiologist tests outside of the normal 'speech' testing) that I would be missing something. There's just not a lot of information up there that contributes to the musical enjoyment IMO. Linear response up to 16K is actually very good for IEMs. I'll be sure and report back after I evaluate these SC1000.

I have a question to the seller. So does this earphone lacks subbass?
bungo
Oct 19, 2017
And how sibilant is it? My concern is that quite some reference-style IEM tend to be sibilant.
bungoThe high end is very smooth all the way out to 16KHz and beyond with none of the big spikes and dips that are common in most IEMs. There is a frequency response plot on the website: https://santacruzaudio.com/pages/features

using them exclusively with my iFi Nano BL now and my Bart rides are wonderful - when i get that seal, and there are some tricks that help get that seal: wet the rubbers a little or use a tiny bit of vaso or similar before inserting

THE DROP; It has a single speaker? How cute. It's nice that it's supposedly Made in the USA (per another reviewer), so that's a plus if it actually is. I'm sure that they are a quality set of plugs that will last a long time, so at 90 bucks for general purpose n/c ear plugs it's not a bad deal since their asking price is a laughable $585 bones??? That's quite a price for a "debut product" from a company I never heard of before. PC mag noted that originally the MSRP on these was a staggering $1,150.00. And that was back in in June of 2016 for this same set. So in my own professional audio assessment, this is more of a MASS DUMP, than a MASS DROP product, which explains the base asking price of 90 pesos for us Massdrop.com peasants. THE TECH; According to other reviews, it's got a single 10mm coil driver, and it's amp pushes thru a flat frequency with crystal clear highs, yet bass is absent. The compartment that drives the drivers/amp/nc components houses a single AAA battery, really? In today's plug and go society? And SCA wants you to lug this around with no hope of of any remote control buttons for playback, track navigation, or ability of accepting phone calls seems like a major oversight. If your willing to spend over a thousand bucks on an audio product, you're probably looking for an immersive experience and don't want to field calls while listening, but given the included cable's 3.5mm termination, it seems likely most users will connect the SC1000 to connect it to a phone and will realize that inconvienence. THE DEAL; I'll pass on this one. This is an out moded, out dated offering, and the audio quality is more general purpose than audiophile grade tech, and anyone who invested in these over the current 90 peso asking price is feeling the burn by SCA. Made in Murica or not! The SCA SC1000 is really a slap in the face that should wake up a lot of audiophile consumers when it comes to company's taking advantage of consumers by hocking it's branding as representative of Hi-Res when it's really not. If SCA wants to compete on the top rankings with giant's like Bose, Klipsch, Harmon Kardon, JBL, Pioneer, and others, they better up their game and their offerings to us Massdrop peasants, or we will break you.

BulletsBullets...How do you know this is an outmoded, general purpose (non-audiophile) product? Did you buy a set or otherwise hear them somewhere? I did my homework and studied the graphs and specs very carefully before making my purchase and from what I can tell, this IS an audiophile product compared to many other offerings. My thinking is that going from $585 (originally $1,150) to $90 is representative of a "great deal" considering there's an amp with it as well. Since they did debut at the LA high fi show and also Rocky Mountain, that suggests to me this is more than a general purpose product. Having said that, I will give my impressions once the product arrives and after some critical listening. But really, for $90, it's a no brainer in my mind and I for one am very much looking forward to it.

Please explain what "You can even use the SC1000 as a set of concert earplugs" means..
UsehernameEach earpiece includes a hi-fidelity microphone facing outward. The signal from these microphones is summed into each earpiece signal. The amount of microphone signal sent to the earpieces is controlled by the sliding volume control on the side of the amplifier. This allows the ambient sound to be heard in stereo and adjustable from +3dB to -35dB (relative to your normal hearing). You can adjust the level of a concert to whatever is comfortable and it still sounds natural.

UsehernameJust means if you have sensitive hearing at a rock concert you can use those plugs instead of the cheesy foam plugs they charge $5 bucks for.

1More is a new company and I can see them getting by with an ok product but they have many high regards from industry professionals. From the 100's of headphones I've tried, I can take a good guess of what they sound like based on their tests. The Triple looks the most promising but all of the products have a cheesy look to them, hence their average score. I remember seeing a review somewhere saying they could cost twice as much and still sell well. https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/1more/triple-driver

How long is the cable between the earbuds and the big heavy box. To me it looks like it's quite short, so there will basically be a big, heavy box swinging around, pulling the earphones out of my ears and making the whole thing very uncomfortable. I suppose it could be clipped to my cloths to stop it swinging, but it really doesn't have a good look.
What does '7-week battery life' mean? Is that continuous usage, or 15 minutes a day? Is that 100% volume, or only 25%? Is that with some things turned off or everything on? I think much more clarity is required on this spec.
How much does it weigh?
As has already been asked, what is the warranty on this item? How does it work for international buyers. Just saying 'we make the customers happy' doesn't really answer this question.
msolokHi msolok. The cable length from the earpieces to the amplifier is 18 inches. If worn around the neck as recommended in the user guide, you don't even know the amplifier is there. This also gives the easiest access to the ambient sound control. Alternatively, we do supply a unique clothing clip that allows you to wear the amplifier clipped to you shirt. The amplifier is pretty light, weighing roughly the same as 2 AAA batteries.
The battery life as you have noted is a very complex subject. As the SC1000 uses a class-D power amplifier, the power used depends on the content of the music as well as the volume. The 7 week life assumes a moderate listening level for 3 hours a day. The extreme use case would be closer to 2 weeks life.
We will repair or replace the product if damage is from normal use, for the original owner for life. If you are unhappy with the product we will refund your purchase price if it is within 30 days.

You are correct. Santa Cruz Audio is currently out of sync with Massdrop. I will notify them and get this corrected. When we first offered this product, it was designed to outperform anything available at that time (2016). I believe that we accomplished this and we set our price based on other top tier products. Since that time, our competitors have lowered there prices and we have been forced to reduce our list price as well. The current Massdrop price is very close to our cost and represents and extremely good deal. I'm sorry if this has caused confusion.

SantaCruzAudioI appreciate you clarifying the pricing discrepancy on the product! It looks like a great set with unique features certainly..gives them a unique value proposition in my mind that could justify the price as long as the sound is cohesive and the dynamics tight. I'll be watching this drop for sure. Thank you for the quick and efficient response and explanation!
