I own for 6 years now a Sea Gull turbillion watch which works flawlessly. I bought it in Hong Kong and it was displayed along with other famous brands such as Patek Philippe, Breguet, Vacheron Constantin, Rolex etc. It is the only Chinese made watch that has been exposed in the world famous watch fair in Basel Switzerland and didn't go unnoticed. They manufacture few highly complicated watches such as perpetual minute repeater, double turbillion, gyroscopic (revolving turbillion) etc. Yes its made in China and yes its not yet a Patek Philippe, but yes it still costs a SMALL fraction of competitors prices and YES its as reliable as mechanical watches come. What might be a problem is when service will be required, especially for a turbillion watch,. In this case, if provided might cost more than he watch! Saying this, buying a Sea Gull watch you still buy more than what you are paying for, which means MORE VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY. If you think that this watch is just another Chinese made chipo, then with the similar money go buy yourself a mechanical Swatch or a something digital, but that won't give you the taste of owning a really good watch.
I wouldn't pay $20 for this.. Everything screams "cheap"... Bold "Made in China" ( Not that everything China produces is bad... to be fair it is usually Americans telling Chinese manufacturers to make the products as cheap as possible - but if I'm spending $200 on a leash I would go with something European ) on the face, a "Genuine Leather" wristband ( which is code for the cheapest layer of hide instead of full-grain, and it is usually thickened with paper or cardboard.. maybe even asbestos [ which I have found in some belts ] )...
That's what I was thinking. Trying to get him to admit he doesn't actually know what he's talking about, since he doesn't own the watch.
I own a Rodina - to my knowledge, they share parts with Sea-gull - and I'm pretty happy with it.
AcecoolYou are lacking knowledge on Sea-Gull watches. Actually, they are worth it, among the best watch manufacturers in China. The strap is pretty shitty, I do agree here. But change it for better one and the watch will shine.
MD... it would be helpful if you listed case specs in the Tech Specs section, rather than having to google the answer. Diameter, thickness and strap size are spec items that should be listed in the spec section of every watch listing
Mr.InternationalYou are correct; not everything China produces is garbage but I've found asbestos in "Genuine Leather" because it is the cheapest / worst layer from full-grain leather ( full-grain is what you'd typically expect when you see the word Leather advertised in a product; this will likely crack within a year revealing paper, cardboard, asbestos or some other garbage filler used to thicken the band )... Text editor coding is terrible; when you try to go back and change something you have to do it 1 character at a time when you initially reply.. The issue disappears when you go to edit it after submitting it... -- It is typically Americans telling Chinese manufacturers to produce something as cheap as possible so you can't blame the Chinese but you can't trust them either when you find asbestos in a belt or wrist-band of something you thought was quality ( happened in an expensive belt I purchased; cracked within a year exposing the fraud and I educated myself on leather in addition to getting a full refund from the company in question - was over $100 too ). I bought a full-grain leather belt from a gun-store for $30 and it carries a full-size pistol and other EDC gear and it hasn't cracked, etc... It is thick, and quality... In short.. if the mechanics are good on the watch then I'd highly recommend replacing the band... If I were to wear a leash, I would make sure to buy a European brand which can proudly display the name on the face rather than a "generic: made in china" plain-text advertisement.
