I've been looking at this to replace my fx audio dac x6. I understand the dac x6 has a more powerful headphone amp but nothing I'm driving has a high enough impedance for that to matter. Strictly in terms of dac quality, how much of a difference will there be using this as my dac from a windows pc with cd quality flac files? Most of my time will be split between the headphone amp powering hd6xx, and using the rca out to my amp that powers two way floorstanding speakers.

EdwgI appreciate the response, but I'm currently using the fx audio dac x6 to avoid the awful built in laptop dac. My question is whether or not the smsl m6 would be a noticeable upgrade from the fx audio dac x6, not a laptop dac.
The pc was mentioned becuase I'm using usb audio out to feed the dac cd quality flac files to my fx audio dac x6 and would be doing the same if i upgraded to the smsl m6.

Dmt37I know this is super late, and you probably already went with a thing.
But, I have the X6 and also recently picked up the Fiio Q1 Mark II, and I can hear a difference in the DAC quality. The Q1 sounds cleaner somehow? I believe the Q1 uses a DAC chip from the same family as the M6, so you may indeed get better sound out of a better dac than the X6.
Though, of course, sound quality is subjective and your milage may very. But i will the difference to me was noticeable with the HE350s stock even. So with the 6XXs you'll probably notice more of a difference.

TaylorDI have decided to save my funds for the Audio GD NFB11. seems to be an excellent dac/amp that'll allow me to use whatever headphones I decide to purchase in the future while providing enough clarity and accuracy for whatever loudspeakers I purchase as I upgrade that system as well.
