code9200Thx line of amps all sound very similar to each other subjectively and objectively they so close to each in measurements plus measurements are so good the difference between to would hard point out really in general sound the same unless you do a/b comparison to hear the subtle sound change. So they are equal for pretty much power but the single end on the Smsl has more power but is not a true balanced amp but the distortion numbers so low that true balance output really would not make whole lot difference unless your a purist. 789 is also not truly balanced either technically but is more a true balanced amp over the Smsl but again balanced is really not a deciding factor. The 789 is not available and the Smsl is a good option if you want purchase from drop. The best $200 amp that beats both of them is the Schiit Magnius it's a truely balanced amp that produced double power at the high ohm ratings compared to the other amps. I personally would get the Schiit Magnius.
paired this with a d10 balanced works great with hd650 and 1990 pro. but idk if i could recommend it at 219, i bought it at 140. it is a good amp though
I‘m using this one with my DT770 250ohm. Overall it‘s really good. But when nothing is playing or during very quite parts there is a noticeable static noise. Is this normal? Source is 3,5mm to RCA using Audioquest cables.
i noticed using balanced headphone out, unit got warm to touch. But using SE headphone out, it didn't get warm
Not sure the reasoning, any one else notice?
Can some good people having sp200 comment on their listening levels and knob positions? I was somewhat expecting a more powerful amp. Although it gets loud, I can listen around 10 on high and 12 low gain modes on my Klipsch HP-3s which has 25 ohm impedance and 98 db/mW sensitivity. Maybe I can try to measure it with my phone to compare.
Smsl m500 headphone output should be equal to 25-28. No pass through mode, neither fixed mode if that is what you mean. Some dacs' fixed mode fixes to half volume but since it is digitally controlled, I think it shouldn't matter either way.
I use XLR cables to connect to sp200. RCAs are also connected to a diy tube amp (which is insanely loud, I have to turn dac volume down to be able to control volume pot)
I don't use mqa. DAC is connected to PC with Highest sample and bitrates. Alhough dac was plug and play, I still downloaded drivers. It uses theysicon drivers for xmos. Did I forget anything?
would buy this over the magni heresy If I knew there was a 50% chance of getting something with a channel imbalance because you dont qc potentiometers..
