The price is too high for what it offers in terms of sound quality. The device reliability is also questionable, quality control or faulty design, it is not certain. DACs at half the price perform the same and are more reliable.
Hmm... I'm actually an audiophile... and not an expensive one at that. You ought to meet audiophiles... many of them own $3K cartridges in their turntables and $20K amplifiers.
YOU might be surprised.

Have you walked into a High End audio shop?
Hello everyone, it says 110v plug for this run. Does it mean it will not work if we have 240v plug? Or is it optional to choose/switch from 110 to 240?
I'm likely insane but I love looking for better. I'm using this DAC combined with a THX AAA 789 and HD800s. The sound is simply outstanding and I should be happy. (I really am.)
The problem is I read the opinion of others and they all have different opinions. The major "opinion" is that the AAA 789 will compress the sound. Now it is unlikely I could tell if the sound is compressed unless I had a better amp to swap with.
So, here is my question. How does the AAA 789 compare with other amps, such as the Topping? Does the 789 compresses the sound and a good solid amp be a better pair?
I have some money coming in the future and can start looking for upgrades. It has been years and might be years more before I get it, but it is coming. Until then I would like to create a list of possible upgrades in headphones and possibly the amp.
Other things on my list are a really good pair of earbuds, another one of these DAC's/amp to create a 2.1 system in the bedroom with a good power amp and bookshelf speakers.
This money is split between 11 people and I have credit cards to pay off, so I might be dreaming. But it is ok to dream.
Is the S.M.S.L VMV D1se a newer version, or different? It costs less, but it looks too like the S.M.S.L VMV D1 DAC is being discontinued. My search skills stink, so...
