mania400I'm pretty sure those are just renders. They probably don't even have any physical units made yet lol. This probably amounts to a kickstarter pre-order of an unfinished product. They are testing the waters to see what the interest is.
KimbaWLionThat's not how diminishing returns work, you intelligent person. Not to mention you can have very expensive DACs like the Holo May Kitsune or Denafrips Terminator + that will perform extremely well, and sound quite different at the same time. Hifi is all about personal preferences in the end.
This dac is very intriguing but without a discount I don't see myself going for something like this. It is good to see the big audio companies likes smsl, topping, and gustard producing higher end dacs. Hopefully this will continue to bring the price down for good sounding dacs. Hope anyone who picks one of these up enjoys it or comes back and posts a review so we can see what you think.
I really love the sound of the PCM170x, however. Until I bought the AKM4499-based Singxer SDA-6, a PCM1704-based unit was my best-sounding DAC (which still sounds better than the Musetec Mini).
I checked mouser.com on the pricing and availability of the TI PCM1704U-J chip and it's listed as "Obsolete". I also checked on the Analog Devices AD5781ARUZ used in the Bifrost 2 and it's listed with a factory lead time of 64 weeks, but at least it's a current gen. chip. $3500.00 for legacy hardware.
TarasTIf the spec sheet update list is at all accurate that "current gen" is still 11 years old. R2R/Multibit chips are all legacy at this point, one just has to pick their desired flavor or go discrete.
