Part of Spyderco’s value line of folders, the Efficient is just like it sounds. It’s got a universal drop-point blade and a G-10 handle that won’t slide from your grip, plus Spyderco’s signature thumb hole for smooth one-handed opening Read More
Last winter I purchased my first Spyderco knife off MD. It was slightly smaller than this knife and had a sheepsfoot shape blade (Vox/Anso designed). It immediately became my everyday carry knife replacing a particular Gerber knife that is has a length midway between this drop and the Vox/Anso. Right now is sitting open on the desk in front of me having recently been used. My favorite blade shape is the drop point, but this current blade is close enough to the drop point. Plus, I am so delighted with my first Spyderco that I simply must join the drop.
I’ll second the nice looks and geometry of the blade but if I were to buy a smaller blade now that I have much more knowledge on steels, I couldnt go less than (probably) 13cr (Sandvik type), vg10 or even cts-bd1. I already have a Cryo 1 and Cryo II And I think they are great blades for the money even though edge retention is marginal. I’m curious how people’s patience will wear over time when having to resharpen worse reprofiling a blade after use. Hence my Cryo’s are back up duty or very rough (1-2 times) use. Just my little ole opinion. I appreciate reading others and what not.
Just bought this knife on walmart.com for $38.97with free shipping or I would be all over this drop. Interestingly enough, the shipping label from ups said Walmart.com but the ups tracking showed it originated from Earth City, MO. Nice little knife that I think is well worth $33, if you are on the fence and looking for a decent little budget EDC. I like it better than the Persistence. It is also hands down better than most cheap Kershaw’s or the Byrd line.
Good ergos (liner lock is well done, and G10 grips look sharp), nice blade shape (think sage or native), and the fit and finish is exellent on such an inexpensive knife (well centered, good lock-up). I am a firm believer that Spyderco does the 8CR13MOV better than most. To be fair it is a little heavy and blade steel could be better, but it’s a nice knife for the money.
Do not choose the case and save $10....this like most of the Spyderco drops on Massdrop and saves you 15% compared to the "go to on line knife retailers: Knifeworks, BladeHQ, DLT etc
$35.72 on Massdrop, $42.22 everywhere else (that is a 15% savings). If you do not need to save the money or need the knife immediately then there are plenty of other options
Back to the knife...the Spyderco Efficient is a nice sized entry level EDC, lots of value for the price. Give it a go if you are on the fence around a start into knifes.
