Next time you go out to a bar or restaurant, take note of the wallets being pulled out of every pair of pants. For the most part, they arrive in dark tones, are made of leather, and come piled higher than what any reasonable man requires Read More
I backed this one on Kickstarter when they first came up. I used it for about a month and then shelved it. It does not take to wear & tear very well, and is really one of the least comfortable money clip/wallet setups I have ever used. I half this price I might recommend, but I couldn't see spending this much for one.
What's with all these overpriced, gimmicky Kickstarter items trying to reinvent the wheel? There was that bullshit metal cache, those other ugly-ass wallets, a few Kickstarters that are actually kind of neat (Pebble, Ostrich), and now, ANOTHER wallet.
What is so wrong about a folding leather wallet that can carry your cards and money? Do these people think that there are too many metal cars? Maybe we should make them out of cotton, instead. Or better yet, let's power them with nuclear energy!
They do what they have to well without reinventing a wheel that didn't need any innovation. There is a market for smartwatches and the Pebble fits neatly in it. The Ostrich pillow isn't trying to make an existing item even less practical (read: don't care what you have to say about it being nothing new). This wallet is.
Dragonzeanse"What is so wrong about a folding leather wallet that can carry your cards and money? " Folding adds bulk. I bought a Capsule Wallet when they were on kickstarter and haven't been able to use another wallet since. I've tried going back to regular bi/tri fold wallets and they just feel too bulky now. Works great for me, others might find otherwise.
Also, why do you even need a wallet? My roommate uses a rubber band for his cash/cards and my grandfather uses a binder clip.
Does it impact your life in any meaningful negative way that other types of wallets exist? Probably not, so why do you care? Someone might find this wallet useful.
saw the youtube video of this, seems like a fad and a pain in the ass. I can imagine being the jerk at the checkout going through wallet trying to find the card you need to pay with.
Also elastic always fails, soon the elastic will get weak and cards will slide out.
It's elastic. ALL elastic wears out. Just like ALL leather or conventional wallets will wear out and need replacing eventually. There's no need to be hostile. I was just stating that mine still works perfectly after over a year of use, and that the elastic is easy to swap out when it does wear out so instead of buying a whole new wallet, you just spend $7. To me it has been well worth the higher cost, but to each his own; I'm not here to convert anyone.
dinkThanks for supporting the community anyhow. This is not a conventional store, and people get left out from time to time, knowing that you are coming back is great for moral.
got my tracking number today. seems like they hit an unforeseen snag on account of the supplier. I see no reason to think they didn't update us about it as soon as they found out. crap happens.
it's a democracy for group purchases. not sure what part of that suggests to anyone that every suggested massdrop will be a good one and delivery will be consistent and swift, or how failing either one of those is entirely the fault of the facilitators.
I don't wish any of these guys out of a job, but it would be nice if the whole thing was mostly automated, and no actual people had to suffer this purposeless whinging.
Kwanyeah, second and third sentences of my post were based off that update. I've been satisfied with the entire experience, aside from some of the comments.
I'll do my best! The interior plates of all our wallets are polished aluminum, it is the outer plates material that changes.
2) The elastic will not wear out quickly! I've been using a few various Ridge's over the last 2 years, and haven't had to replace the elastic on any of them, the outer plates act as a sort of sheath. We also have a 1 year replacement warranty on the elastic if it should wear out or get damaged for any reason.
3) the interiors are all polished on these versions and we haven't really had any issues with damaged or stripped cards in the wallet.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
I've had the gunmetal one with the cash strap for about a year. It's a rugged little thing and I've been happy with it. It really made me rethink what I carry in my wallet. I'm down to my driver's license, one credit card, my insurance card and one $20 bill that rarely leaves the strap because I hardly ever use cash anymore. It's held up well. No problems with the strap or the bills falling out. It's pretty scratched up, but thats to be expected as I keep it in my front pocket with my keys. Thumbs up overall.
A couple of questions:
1. Are the credit cards secure in this wallet?............is there something stopping them from falling out, even if there are only a couple of cards in it?
2. Concerning the band or clip option, will one hold the bills more securely, especially after time? I mught prefer the clip (less bulky?), but am concerned that the band may stretch out after awhile
werekongI've had my ridge wallet for over 2 years. I chose the elastic band because it is easily replaceable and more slim vs the clip. I've never hard a card fall out and I have never felt like bills were loose under the strap. I absolutely recommend the ridge wallet 100%. You will not regret buying one.
Loving the my new carbon fiber w/ clip. One unfortunate thing about it is that I have an RFID badge for work that I would keep in my old wallet. I'd just flash the wallet on the pad and go. But with the Ridge, it obviously blocks the signal, requiring me to keep the badge in the money clip. Clearly didn't think that one through, but keeping it in the clip is not a big deal and works great.
As you can see, it's quite a bit smaller than a standard billfold. If you wear it in your back pocket, it should overall less bulky. On the other hand, it will also be less flexible (as in not at all). I should point out too that, upon closer inspection, there are some very light scratches on the carbon surface, if that's a concern you have, though I imagine titanium would be even worse. Ti is a scratch magnet, in my experience.
neverfoxThanks for providing some pictures man!
Damn, looks slick as hell! I may end up going with the aluminum or waiting and buying the carbon fiber next drop.
I thought about the front pocket and I just cant do it. Living in GA almost anything in your front pockets sucks in the heat and humidity. Right now I have the ezgo wallet (the plastic one). It's nice and all but not very elegant or professional looking. But it does everything I would want in a wallet anyhow.
