I had high hopes for these earphones but I ended up not keeping them. I think they were pretty neutral but boring to me. I need a little giddyup in my sound profile. These did not deliver.
I am no audiophile so my review would not mean much to most.
But here is goes.
These have more presence than the TFZ King Pro. I feel the sound being more upfront and cleaner.
It has a little less bass than the TFZ King Pro.
Compared to the UE TF10 the T88K has way more room and less bloomy in the mids.
I actually like these but the only problem is the bore is large.
I got a pair of the symbio ear tips in medium and it hurts my left ear... my right side is fine.
So I have a small pair coming and I might try that to see if it levitates the pain.
These are my go to IEM
Very satisfied with my purchase. Build quality of the unit and the cable is excellent.
Out of the box, I can describe the sound as clear, clean, and detailed. The fit is perfect for me (I'm 5'7 medium built and using JVC spiral tips ML).
Using Samsung S7 Edge ->UAPP (bit perfect) -> iFi iSilencer -> Chord Mojo
Excellent sounding earphone with great isolation and a nice cable. These have bass that hits like a dynamic driver but faster and with great slam. And there's plenty of it--enough that I would EQ it down on some bassy tracks. The midrange is excellent with lots of texture, no shout and good balance throughout. The high end extends and is not sibilant. There's a peak out there that (somewhere around 6K) that I wish wasn't as pronounced as it makes cymbals a little shisssssshy at times. Fit is good, but beware, they are not small. The lip on the nozzle is not pronounced and rubber tips that fit a little tight on it may stay in your ear. I always use Comply tips and had no problem, but in experimenting with silicone, I had one stick in my ear.
I really like these. There's a realism to the sound that is uncommon at this price. The separation is great. The soundstage is very wide. To me, the bass is the most surprising thing--I typically prefer dynamic drivers and how they deliver the low end. But these really bring a solid bass presence and have a nicely thick sound. One note: the units I received had a port on the side (facing up when in the ear). That's not usual for a fully balanced armature earphone (dynamic drivers need vents, BAs don't, or so I thought). I believe this is to vent the Knowles 31618 BA which has ports. What I hear in the bass may not be identical to the versions without the ports.
I've had (and sold) a lot of earphones over the years: Shure 215, 425, and 846, Campfire Jupiter and Dorado, Orivetti New Primacy, Ibasso IT01 and IT03, TFZ Secret Garden (dynamic driver version), and a few others. My current collection consists of IMR R1, Magaosi X3 and Hifi Boy OS V3. I spend most of my time with the IMR R1s. The T88ks have an equally full, but more textured sound, and I could see them being my everyday earphones. They definitely fit better and seal better than the IMR R1s. The midrange and high end are similar to the Magaosi X3 (also all Knowles BAs), but the X3 bass is much less present. They compare very well with the Dorados while costing $700 less.
Now for the bad thing: my left unit lost the treble after 5 days. Massdrop is giving me a refund (thank you Massdrop!) but until they offer another drop, I'm back to my other earphones and missing the T88ks. I really hope they go with another drop.
Woah, staggering performance! I was not expecting these to perform like $1000 multi-driver IEM’s... but after burning them in awhile and listening to all genres of music, they sound insanely good. Very neutral sound signature. Soundstage is incredibly wide at this price point and instrument separation is almost perfect. They are not bright at all, seam a little more on the warm side, but the clarity is competitive with IEM’s I’ve heard several times the costs of these.
Ggerald1I find them to be pretty neutral but not necessarily in a bad way. I'm just used to IEMs that have anywhere from a mild to moderate V shape sound profile. I wonder if they will sound any different after some extended play time. I'm not yet ready to form a final opinion yet. I do find it a little difficult to get good ear penetration with the stems. I think because the body is so big they just don't insert into my ear far enough. I put some aftermarket silicon tips on that worked better than any of the included tips.
