Have been using it for almost a month now and thought I could share my experience with it. I used it with Headphones as well as IEMs and I can definitely hear a difference in clarity and fullness of the music I played with it.
I mainly use a desktop setup (Benchmark HPA2 / Benchmark DAC 1 PRE / Rebel AMP), and wanted a new portable amp (I use a Sony PHA 2 for many years and use a Fiio BTR7 as well) and G5 is definitely an upgrade. I still like the Fiio BTR 7 for just how portable and nice it sounds through bt, but as expected of Topping, the G5 just sounds great.
I bought mine and loved it and thought I would give my two cents to people interested in pre-ordering here on Drop. Definitely recommend it.
Hello!
I would say that the sound from the G5 sounds fuller and cleaner, has better bass, similar to a desktop setup. The BTR7 sounds a bit brighter to me. I will say that if you are looking something for portability, the BTR7 would be the way to go. The G5 is definitely portable, but for how small the BTR7 is vs how it sounds it would be the better choice. I am using the G5 with a laptop and the BTR7 for commute/everyday carry.
Now if it were up to me based on your setup, I would keep the BTR5 and just go ahead and get the G5. If later you want to upgrade the BTR5 there are other options like the Fiio KA5 which sounds amazingly good and it's super portable.
Sorry for the long reply, hope it helps!
