Good to see Massdrop carrying Tops! I think they previously offered S.N.A.P kit, maybe it was someone else. Anyway, great on Massdrop to pickup ESEE and Tops.
At one time these were some of the best near custom knife makers out there, and they still are, but other companies like Blind Horse (who split and now the collaboration of makers still make knives under different names), are increasing in popularity. And many of these other excellent makers are offering better value in the same level of quality knife.
This particular Tom Brown Tracker (large) is something of a specialty knife. Being showcased in a movie helps, and this is a great combo knife falling between a machete and a small hatchet. The saw back could use a redesign, (in full disclosure I've handled this knife, not used it).
Knives by Tops I'll be on the lookout for:
WOLF PAX 2
MAX THE MINI AXE
KEY C
F.O.R.K. IT
ECO HAWK
C.A.T. 200S-04
ConsumerAdvocateMany thanks, appreciate the post.
It's been a long time coming for both brands, and something that we've worked on through two years of SHOT and Blade shows to finally realize. I can definitely look into the models you selected for future drops, in addition to what we've gotten votes for in Polls. Thanks for your support, it enables us to bring more TOPS to the site.

fhoodI've tried using one for various bushcrafting tasks. Fortunately not one that belongs to me, though. It belongs to a friend that did some work at Tom Brown's school, and Brown gifted them a knife in return. The thing has quarter inch thick steel coupled with a low grind, meaning that the profile is a fat wedge that isn't actually good at cutting. It can do some chopping and light splitting, but any camp hatchet, even a bad one, will work better. It's ground like a splitting maul.
Also, the "saw" crudely cut into the spine is worthless. The extremely basic saw on my Victorinox Swiss army knife bested it easily in speed. The abrupt change in grind halfway down the blade hinders any kind of performance in cutting with the recurved section of the blade, as well.
A simple $15 Mora will serve you much better at nearly any bushcraft task, aside from, say, batoning.
WoodratHe studied with Stalking Wolf from 7 until 18. Stalking Wolf was Tom’s best friend’s Rick’s grandfather, and they were taught together. Read The Tracker.
I think the $35 rocky mountain tread handle upgrade is actually a downgrade, give how many folks have complained about handle hot spots when using it, but that won't matter if you're only buying it to add to your safe queen collection.
This is a large speciality knife as noted by "consumer" below. I own 6+ TOPS knives: mostly fighting knives; one skinner; a few survival; and one ridiculously big one. The quality of TOPS knives is excellent. The thickness and strength is hard to beat, as long as you don't mind the weight. I prefer them to my CRKT, SOG, and Benchmades in the same price ranges, though they all make great knives (excluding SOG's Chinese junk). More TOPS blades, please.
