Guys, what gives. The single winder w/ cover was $79.99 + 13.75 shipping (US) the last time it dropped. A 21% price increase from drop to drop? I know most drops creep up in price over time but that seems egregious
>massdrop is getting less and less worth it these days
I wouldn't go that far, it would just be nice to have a little explanation from MD or at least be able to see a drop's previous price points. The fact that you need to dig to find out how the price is changing (my brother was in on the last drop of this winder) makes it feel more like a swindle, even though it almost assuredly isn't. It may be a matter of changing their supplier, or the fact that this drop offers like 15+ options whereas previous ones only had 4 or 5 so maybe it's a limited stock issue, idk. I try to be the optimist because the fact is everyone at MD works damn hard to get the communities the latest and greatest stuff, usually at pretty radical price points. A little transparency would be nice is all.
I do not own a Watch Winder and have a growing # of automatic timepieces. Don't mean to distract the Drop, but If anyone is willing I would welome some discussion on pros/cons of using these devices, and which products perform best. Appreciate any feedback.
Watch winders keep the mainspring at it's maximum or extremely close to it's maximum tension, which in turn puts more pressure on the escapement than if you just wore the watch or left it on a table. This in turn makes the watch run faster.
In the case of magnetised movements, the damage to timekeeping would be semi-permanent, in the sense that the change in accuracy would last until you get the watch de-magnetised.
pixllVery often watches run at their optimum pace with maximum tension. They'll run faster at the end of the mainspring power.
A lot of the variation comes from the positioning and if the watch was regulated to the same position as the winder.
Does anyone know if the version with the cover will fit the cubby just fine? Also, I saw in other reviews on Amazon that you should be able to link them up to other club winders so you only need one adapter to power them, can anyone confirm if the cables for this are included?
jaeun87I had the same question about fitting 3 Cubs with Covers in the Cubby, so I emailed Wolf directly. Here is my Q and their A:
Q: The Cub with Cover Single Watch Winder has the same Width and Height as the Cub. Photos show that the Cubby will fit 3 Cubs. Will 3 Cubs with Covers also fit in the Cubby?
A: The Cub with Cover will not fit in the Cubby’s, it was designed to house any of the Cubs without the covers.
Yeah I saw those, and the range of auto watches they'll be selling too. Not too sure about them, though, no mention of brands or quality or anything like that. Certainly not comparable to Wolf Designs! :)
What is up with the crappy shipping option that's been happening? I used to get all my stuff via UPS in like 3 days, but now its going through DHL and then usps...and almost takes two weeks to get here. The last two items I've gotten have used this instead of just straight ups, but the prices on shipping sure haven't changed.
coltonc18I just got the Jack Foster watch strap drop delivered and thought the same thing. I would think they're using DHL so they don't have to take the time to separate the US from the International orders. Whatever reason they're using DHL is still seems like a bad option. There's a reason why they're at the bottom of the shipping company food chain.
The description page says the cubby is available as a $25 add on, but it is not listed on the drop order page. Is this a mistake? Is the cubby available
NeWaVdubsI’m in the same boat, have two, only wanted third if cubby was available. Customer support replied to my inquiry and confirmed the cubby will not be available this drop... oh well.
I really want to own one of these, but every time I see the price I'm like "for that price why don't I just get an Aduino, a servo and rig something up for less.
First of all, thank you Massdrop for this. Received it yesterday nicely packed and spankin' new. Great little single winder for those who don't have a large collection. Everything was nicely packaged and the unit looks stylish, minimalist and most important of all, functional. The motor is very very quiet. So much so when I plugged it in for the first time as I was trying (I'll get back to this later) to fit my watch onto the supplied cuff I only realized it was on and turning was when I was putting the cuff back into the winder. For that, I'm very impressed. Now getting back to the cuff... It's too dang large to wrap my beloved Seiko SARB033 around! No matter how much I compress the cuff, the SS bracelet will not fit around it. I can try to really force it but I fear I'd put too much pressure on the links and end up damaging the bracelet! I can fit it with the bracelet unbuckled of course but then the cuff won't fit properly into the winder (too long for the winder depth). So guys with smaller wrists, just take note of this before joining the next drop. For those using only leather straps, great news, a total non-issue! But for us bracelet lovers with smaller wrist sizes, we're out of luck! Two solutions for this, unstitch the cuff and take some of the stuffing out (probably voiding warranty). Or order the smaller cuff from Wolf (they only have black or grey so if you're like me and bought the blue, sorry it ain't gonna match). Buying from Wolf direct for me is a definite no 'cause cheapest shipping to Australia ends up being $74 for a $15 accessory. Ain't gonna happen. Did manage to find a WOLF dealer here but not sure if they're still in business due to their website being a little umm... dated. Time will tell I guess 'cause I ordered a small cuff in black from them. Hopefully it'll arrive and I can finally use this little unit! Overall, great winder for those with large wrist sizes and non-SS bracelet users.
Update (6/6): Happy to report that I've received the small cuff and the watch is now happily turning in the winder. Happy Horologist here. For those who are situated in Aus., here's the link if you need a small cuff: https://bigwatchworld.com/wolf
