One look at the Xduoo TA-26 and it’s clear what the point is: delicate, tube-driven audio. The sandblasted, aluminum alloy shell sits in an L-shape on your desk, leaving both tubes fully exposed Read More

Headfonics review of the xDuoo TA-26

"The xDuoo TA-26 looks like a little beast and it really is very well-rounded for the price. Can’t go wrong here in terms of value to performance. I also felt like it is one of the better preamps I could set up my Stax headphones with."
how much is the power consumption in watts for xduoo ta26 ? Read the darkvoice consumes around 53 watts with the stock tubes. Ta26 should be similar i guess.
I received my ta26 from apos.audio yesterday 7-20-2021 - running stock buffer tube. Stock gain tube bass is quantity over quality, really sloppy, and the midrange is in your face. I tried a new production JJ, Tung Sol, and ElectroHarmonix 6sn7 and they all hummed crazy loud in the left channel. Swapped in a vintage GE and zero hum and way better sound. Chassis build is really nice. Buyers beware, rolling your 6sn7 tubes is going to be crap shoot.
First time I hear this.. Had absolutely no problem with mine, and read about it extensively and definitely wouldn't have bought it if there were concerning news about quality controll. Its a great unit praised by thousands of happy users..
What’s the output impedance on this amp? I know some of these tube amps don’t work well with lower impedance headphones and unfortunately my highest is 32-80 ohms
I'm assuming that this is really only good for ~150Ω or higher, like most cheaper priced OTL head amplifiers. Just judging by the pictures of the populated circuit board that xduoo has on their website, xDuoo didn't use large enough capacitors at the output as is required to give good bass response and prevent most of the frequency shifting with low Ω cans. Pretty similar to the DV in that respect, also possibly fixed via modding (just like with the DV).
The TA-20 is an awesome amp. I <3 the crap out of mine. One of the most compatible balanced hybrids I've used.
I'm personally staying far away from the TA-30. I'm not a terribly big fan of the choice of tube rectification for the high voltage. I mean, sure, in a guitar amp you want the tube rectifier for the voltage sag, especially when pushing into break-up territory. In a head amp it just adds a valve that will fail much quicker than the pair in the preamp, and there is no real gain for the end user other than another source of potential noise in the audio.
FayneThe only thing that gets me, not sure if it will be the same with this amp like the TA-10R. When you use the output into another amp it doesn’t sound as good as using the headphone out on the unit. It’s something along the line of with it outputting you get like 40% of what the headphones provide in sound quality.
So to even purchase and use it with another amp where this is out of the equation is kind of sketchy
donunusThe cheapo 6P1 OTL amp has pretty sweet mids and treble, but the bass is not even close to as deep as a 6AS7 or 6C19P in OTL. Output impedance is also pretty high, without doing the maths I gustimate in the mid 200s. The TA-26 has similar high output impedance, but if I had to pick between the two, I would absolutely go with the TA-26. That said, the 6P1 amp did sound pretty pleasant on my HD6XX and HD820.
I purchased the 6P1 amp on a lark. I have like 600 6П1П-EB tubes and absolutely love them in any position a 6V6 or 6AQ5 would normally go in. At sub-$90 before shipping, it isn't a bad little box especially if one is prone to tinkering or modifying ones tube gear.
With a bit of effort and maybe $10 in parts one could modify it from being a 6P1 OTL to a 6C19 or 6H6П OTL.
