Yea so actually owning PK1's, I was not impressed out of the box. However, against my own instincts, these really responded well to significant burn-in period.
But that wasn't even the biggest factor. These LOVE tubes. I have never come across a single pair of cans/phones/buds whatever that transforms with a decent tube amp (decent tubes more importantly). It's pretty weird being locked down to a desktop setup with earbuds but damn they just sound so sweet. Compete against cans 10x their price.
They are aggressive for rock/metal, sweet for vocals. I get the criticism of the thin cables and overall presentation, but if anyone is arguing against sound quality, they are doing it wrong, or they don't even own the things. If you have tubes, have fun, buy them.
I don't think they are fakes. Yuin is this jankie DIY brand from China, I know because I am from China. I have had them, they are impressive for the 7 bucks, but $100... Just look at how they are built.
cong314159No there are fakes, but thats because Yuin was just the originator of a really common style(tho unlikely given that this is massdrop). They might be a diy brand w a janky build but thats just the nature of Yuin's design and unchanging philosphy. They've been doing this for like about 20+ years now i believe. Yuin knos what they are doing because the classic earbud styling is just their demographic
Have they fixed the cable problem these used to have? I have a pair from around 7 years ago and the rubber of the cable hardened up around the first two inches, down from the earpiece. They still work but I have to be very careful not to bend that portion or I'm sure it will break. This should not happen to +$100 dollar earbuds!
I heard they were working on this back in the day but didn't know if it ever got fixed? Have they updated the cable material?
Well, I got the PK1, and it sounds about the same or slightly thinner than the PK2. It's less efficient that the PK2. With my equalizer boosting the bass about 7 db at 40 hz to 10 db at 60 and 70 hz, a 30 hz tone is inaudible by either tone or weight. 40 hz is very faint (with the bass boost), and either the PK2 is better there or the increased sensitivity makes it seem so. Running a series of test tones or sweeps (both), the response of the PK1 and PK2 seem extremely similar up to beyond 10 khz. I wonder if anyone is able to test these 'buds' on technical gear?
Edit: Quite a bit brighter than the PK2, along with being less efficient. These are my EQ curves for the PK1 and PK2, to get a sound comparable to the Philips X2, but with little to no output in the lowest octave (~27.5 - 55 hz):
By all means PM me as link. thanks
You would have to define 'pure' but the whole point of quality DACS is how they present audio in the most 'qualified' way possible given all the various parametres.
Again with the greatest respect...I use my ears to listen. They whole point [for me] of quality is to enjoy relaxing 'into' the music and for that I find the less interference between the recording and the drivers on my ears the better or me the more prefered
TBH though I dont care how or why the signal is not as 'pure' as the source...Otherwise Tube amps would be an issue for me!! I just enjoy the various flavours that different DAC's give to the music. Ive reached a stage of realism and [relative] purity with my headphones / system that blows my mind on a daily basis. That's enough for me. Maybe whats more difficult in general is finding superbly recorded/mastered music these days. Once you've enjoyed some Verve Jazz recordings from 50's-60's its hard to get excited for 'modern' stuff
Interesting stuff though :)
lexsI managed to get an album of Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker from '53 in mono - good mono I think. I also got a live reunion album from '74 I think it was - that's a good listen. Got a few tracks by Gigi Gryce, George Kahn, Clark Terry, Bill Evans Trio.... too much to name. The companies who are doing quality remasters of the classic albums need to be commended and supported. We're living in a good time for this music.

why are these so expensive? they really look like $5 in-ears and that design is so damn uncomfortable (atleast in my tiny ears) and just look cheaply made overall.
SykoYou owe it to yourself to give the 'Ty hi-z HP-32 2.0' a listen before spending $104.99 on the Yuin PK1 Earbuds, I seriously doubt that you would ever look back after your first listening session. Earbuds are not special to me, but the Ty is truly special... so special that I bought a second pair just in case mine is ever lost or ruined and they're no longer available.
Btw, they are also available Balanced too
carliberYea that's not even a close fight. Ty's are still great for price but Yincrow X6's are definitely better, more sub-bass to be sure. And the PK1's absolutely outclass the X6's.
