demizeI call this massdrop syndrome. Where you see something cheap that would be useful, but that you don't need whatsoever, and yet for some reason you feel the urge to purchase it.
I cannot possibly justify even one pen, much less this many. I have all the Pilot Metropolitans, both fountain pen and rollerball, that I could ever use, and lots of great G2 refills. I have Staedler Fineliners, Mildlighters, and a metric tonne of Uniballs.
But ya know those Varsities are so much fun and I like the colors and...
For anyone that's curious, I hopped on the last Pilot Varsity drop and expected them to be a low-end pen, being a disposible and all, but they're quite nice. They write well, and hold up to the rigors of the inside of a backpack just fine.
I also have several of the Frixion pens, which are another good quality pen. They're erasable via heat; the rubber eraser heats the page when you scrub, which makes the ink turn invisible.
akrautI agree. The Varsity Pens are actually quite nice. Obviously, you shouldn't expect a perfectly smooth nib but the pens have nice ink flow and certainly offer a nice gateway into fountain pens. The inks also seem to do very well on cheaper paper which is a huge plus with a fountain pen.
Wow. This is a lot of pens. Pilot makes some great, cheap pens. I color code my notes and have been a fan for a while. Recently, I made the switch from the G2 to using fountain pens almost exclusively. The Varsities are great for a "disposable" fountain pen.
The Varsity 7-pack were some of my first fountain pens and I'm still a huge fan. In addition to having a long cap-off, dry-out time, they are incredibly reliable and rarely leak. The ink color is pretty vibrant, the nib is pretty smooth (for such a cheap pen), easily fixed if it's scratchy and you can write with them with the nib upside-down for a finer line. The reservoir holds almost exactly 2.0 ml. They can also be refilled.
What?!
If you do a search online, you will find many sources that discuss how to do that, but it is pretty darn easy to turn a used up Varsity into a refillable eyedropper - especially if you're going to stick with one kind of ink for the pen. I'll see if I can dig up a particularly handy blog post link I saw that takes you through the process step by step.

I'm not sure what the cost for the whole collection would be from Amazon, but almost assuredly more than the lowest drop point, if the past is precedent.
As usual, I hope this helps.
Cheers.

Great news! Pilot let us know that the group's order is on its way to our warehouse as of earlier this week. Based on the shipping schedule we were given, we are expecting the shipment to arrive before the end of the week.
The order will arrive in a bulk shipment and our warehouse team is ready to break it down into individual packages and send them out to you as soon as it arrives.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 2/3 or sooner.
Frixion pens are amazing. My company was sending them out as samples to customers. The only erasable pen that actually erases. Eventually the employees including myself were hunting the pens down for usage at work. Great pen.
