Somewhere between a survival knife and a self-defense knife, the Allegheny Knifeworks M40 can handle a wide variety of outdoor tasks. It features a thick 4-inch blade made from A2 tool steel—an air-hardening steel known for its toughness and dimensional stability. The heat treatment of the blade is done by Paul Bos, one of the pioneers of heat treatment in cutlery applications. Made from G-10, the handle has reptilian grooves and a contoured shape for a solid feel in the hand. A guard protects the index finger and the spine slopes upward, creating a comfortable resting place for the thumb. Stow it in the included Kydex sheath for convenient carry.
