Someone help me understand why this watch is better than a Garmin? I own some pricey mechanical watches, and I actually like some high end quartz watches too with fine finishing, beautiful dials, etc...,. However, when we get into this watch it doesn’t appear to have any of the things that make conventional watches costly, and it seems to offer less than many smart watches at a higher price. As such, I can’t figure out the price - neither the watch attributes nor the smart attributes seem to justify it, and I mean by a long shot. What I am missing?

Outdoors_guy Has quite a few interesting functions actually. Wether they're worth the cost is a separate issue. This video demonstrates a few of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzHntyX7jW4

I bought my AlpinerX at Kickstarter, iam in this topic right from the start. The watch is nice, well made, but it was a long way until the Alpiner was working as it should. 2 times in Swiss, maintenance inc. 2 new Movements and 1 time in Düsseldorf German Headquater from Alpina. The App was ok, there were updates, now they changed the App because of the latetest model the Alpiner Alive. So far the new App works fine, there will be for sure some more updates in the future. I still have my AlpinerX and i wear it during the week at work and sport also. The watch is not small ! But you get used to it.

zurzieI like larger watches so I'm looking forward to the 45mm! Thanks for the feedback and your experience.

Too bad it's a huuuuge 45mm (plus 14mm thickness). It's sadly going to be a door frame magnet!

justinmdougherty Me neither. These other guys are still in their awkward adolescent years—I remember them well ;- )

With this watch being GPS Connected, does it have an auto time/date synchronization feature?
