Showcasing its automatic movement from both the front and back of the case, the Armand Nicolet L09 offers a lavish look at its inner workings. Though it appears the watch has a lot going on, it’s simple to read. There’s just a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock and a hand for minutes and hours—both of which are nice and chunky to stand out amid the mechanical backdrop. Featured inside the watch is a Swiss-made hand-wound mechanical movement for accurate timekeeping. Defending it against outside forces is a titanium case, which also keeps weight to a minimum, especially for a 44-millimeter timepiece.
In 1875 begins the story of Armand Nicolet, where, under his father, the founder of the same name started his watchmaking apprenticeship in the mountain village of Tramelan, Switzerland. In 1902, having demonstrated significant improvement in the trade, Nicolet created his first watch—an automatic rose-gold pocket watch fully loaded with a calendar and chronograph. After over a century of Swiss watchmaking tradition, Armand Nicolet continues to thrive as a boutique watchmaker dedicated to reproducing the timeless designs of old with respect to the modern world’s needs.
