Pretty terrible. I bought one directly from Audioengine. I love their speakers. I paid a fortune to return this sub. It is super low-quality. I bought a REL T-Zero instead. The REL is amazing. Drop is selling the HD4 at a crazy low price now. Buy the HD4 instead. The small powered speakers that Audioengine sells are pretty compact but have a nice big sound for a small/medium sized room. Their HDP6 is pretty awesome too. I have two pairs of the HDP6. I use them for home theatre and they sound good. I wouldn't consider audioengine an audiophile brand but they have huge value and sound great at low to medium volume.
I bought one from Audioengine and paid a lot of money to return it. An awful boomy subwoofer. Very happy with my Rel T-Zero. It is a night and day difference
HifidudeI had exactly the same experience. The T-Zero is more expensive but waaaaaaay better than this cheap sub. I paid a small fortune to return mine too.
Rowdy2026What do you mean how old? Audio really isn't a field where technology progresses all that fast. This subwoofer has been on the market for years now but that doesn't mean anything. It's not a cell phone.
Connected to a recently purchased soundbar. What a difference, gives a "live" effect when watching music concerts. Films get a 3D sound upgrade, the new Top Gun movie trailer, had me grinning from ear to ear. This subwoofer hides behind our living room chair, giving plenty power, without the size. You can hear the price!

It's even worse than that because audio engine doesn't charge tax at all and this will go on sale periodically for 280.
Man this site is a shell of what it used to be back in the day.
Due to AudioEngine's seller restraints they are no longer able to sell items on MassDrop at a reduced price. To try to bypass this restriction, MassDrop attempted to sell AudioEngine products at full price and then provide a gift credit (usable on other drops) for varying amounts, determined by the number of drop participants. The drop failed miserably and no AudioEngine products have surfaced here since.
Almost at three times the number of requests needed for another drop. Any possibility of bringing the S8 back? I'd really like to buy one without having to pay full retail.
