I admit that I'm more curious about the Government or military groups who allegedly ordered this bag to be created for them, than I am in the bag itself. A heavy loadout with this bag would probably be fairly uncomfortable with those shoulder straps. It does look to be a quality item, however.
KnifeGuyThe straps are surprisingly good, and their spacing is such that the bag doesn't swing around while it's on your back. They'd be uncomfortable under a heavy load, but then the pack isn't super huge, either, so it's hard to get it too heavy. Just think of it as a reminder to pack light!
No way! My negative review of the product got removed!! I think that's probably it for me with Massdrop.
Anyway I'll try again, I do not recommend this product. The buckles fall apart and the strap comes off your back (the buckle literally opens outwards under very little pressure). The rope that closes the top can no longer hold it closed and opens up. There are major design flaws with zippers on the outside that opens up to everything, a real concern if you commute a train or otherwise.
In general poorly designed and interior components. Exactly the opposite of what I thought I was getting.
BlakeMorrowLOL. Look up the term "Astroturfing", it referes to the practise of removing negative comments. This comment could change my mind on it! The zipper on the outside however, is there on purpose so you can access the bottom of the bag, much in the style of the Maxpedition Gearslingers, so not a design flaw. Do you have the version with the Chicago screw on the rope which can be tightened to prefent the rope from slipping? The buckles falling apart, are you referring to the Clip part or the actual rings?
TasselhoffIt's like a tie, that you pull in to tighten and can't keep it tight, it just opens up.
The buckle with the clasp, the clasp which is meant to push inwards to clip onto the rings actually pushes outwards with just the slightest little bit of force. This means when I take the bag off one shoulder it comes undone and the strap goes flying. This typically happens when opening the passenger door to put my bag in and the strap comes off and smashes into my new Fiesta ST. I've lost count how many times this has happened...
I can understand that some might like the open zipper design, I admit that I knew of this, but with practical use and it's inability to lock in place. I would recommend against using this bag while commuting.
Just received my bag, It has a great quality feel to it. I have ordered padded shoulder strap pads from Amazon just to make it a bit more comfortable if I have a heavy load. I'm flying to Maui in a couple of weeks, plan to use this bag as my carry on. So far it seems like a winner!
*Update* 8/8/17
Used this pack daily for 7 days while on holiday in Maui. It worked well for beach trips, carried 2 towels, sunblock, GoPro and accessories, wallet, cell phone, sunglasses case, HydroFlask and some snacks! Pack provided enough storage for most of the items I wanted to carry on short excursions away from resort. Never really carried anything too heavy but did have it on my back for several hours at a time. I did purchase Maxpedition shoulder strap pads to make the pack more comfortable. There were a few occasions where water splashed onto the pack, the water just beaded up and rolled off. Obviously not waterproof with the cinch too closure. I actually found the cinch top to be well designed for my purposes. Very easy and quick to load and unload larger items like towels. All in all, very satisfied with pack. Definitely a versatile pack with some limitations but all said and done, worked well for my vacation needs. In fact I received a few complements regarding the packs unusual style!
silverspurr59Tacti-cool one might say! Right you are, definitely more fashion than tactical. Never the less, it's well made and provides a lot of storage options. It's definitely not my choice for EDC but I have used it on several occasions when I felt it would be an appropriate choice.
Supercoop03I've had mine for a few months. Its held up great. I haven't had it in any serious rain. A few showers but just to a from the truck to the house. The top is open so I'm sure water would get in, in heavy rain. I have also heard some of the negative stuff. But all my transactions with them have been smooth. I got 2 of the breaches bars like 3yrs ago. With in the last year I have gotten 2 flashlights and a watch. Happy with all them.
A huge flaw that seems to be that there is no security against thieves or rain. I might've but with the $20.10 shipping and only five dollar saving, not today.
Design flaws are three: top does not really "close" it just pulls together with cord (unlike a 'dry sack'), if walking in rain with it the rain easily gets inside and the interior is lined with "Cotton / polyester " which when wet does NOT dry quickly, there are no "drain holes" in the pack anywhere.... what is the point of waterproof or water resistant zippers.
Design was not well thought out, I've seen the " "Bac-Sac" in from of me, not everything that "looks cool" is.
