Product Description
One of the most discussed and well-reviewed on-ear headphones on Head-Fi, the original Beyerdynamic DT 1350 needs no introduction. Tyll at Innerfidelity gave the DT 1350 his highest recommendation, and the headphone still retains its status as a Hall of Famer to this day Read More
no problem! From my experience and form what iv heard from others, the added bulk from the coiled cable can be a bother when traveling. there have been some times where the weight of the cable causes an ear cup to slip off while moving around, as the coiled portion of the cable sways in awkward directions. this is mostly an issue with on-ears as the smaller earpads do not really grip the head as secure as an over ear set of cans. this is why you probably dont have much of an issue with the audio technicas. I have the M50x and i largely prefer the straight cable on the go. but in a studio or if im sitting at my desk i do tend swap the cable for the coiled version as the flexibility of the shorter cable run with the extra stretch from the coil are very convenient.
RDaCOh I gotcha. Well it's funny because I love the m-50s so much I even run with them sometimes, I guess because I also keep it tucked under my shirt it works. Maybe if I'm lucky the dt1350 will have good enough clamp on my head haha.
The price is really good for this Tesla-driver headphone. I recently bought a pre-Facelift and Facelift version at the same time. There is essentially no difference in the earpads. For a really great fit and better bass, order a set of the T51 earpads (identical earcup configuration).
Adding at the outset would be great, especially since Beyer charges $29 for the pads and another $25 for the shipping (no other choice on shipping), for a total of $54 - just for earpads.
I want to inform potential purchasers that the old and new earpads are essentially the same, which they can see in my youtube channel video. And they can see how much, much better are the T51 earpads.
Funny guy. Did you just seriously ask why should a company waster their time providing support to a product they are selling? So to you it is wrong for a potential buyer to seek/want clarification on a higher end product?
I did not say MD is not a great concept or that overall they are a bad. But $200 is still $200 regardless of the deal. Anyway, I don't want to get into an internet argument. I merely stated my objective impression and observation for the question you asked. Cheers.
I agree, Massdrop do a great job, but at the same time there could have been more communication with this one. They are a business, and if something they are selling all of a sudden looses interest with their customers/members, they should try to clarify any misunderstandings.
These sales that they do happen for a couple of reasons, 1 they want to give enthusiast communities a great deal. 2, for them to make a profit! If the drop doesn't happen, they don't make any money off it. Therefore, I think it would wise for a business to try and keep as many people in a drop as possible, so that its customers save money, and they can make their cut on the sales. Again... they are a business. The more successful drops they do, the better it is for them.
I'm happy that they changed the title and added the straight cable to the drop, that's fantastic on their part, and I'm very grateful for that. I'm just saying it would have been nice to see it done sooner rather than later. After all, places like eBay are technically competitors once a drop is announced, meaning all the people who left, should have been potential for greater sales for MD
Scyllion1350 is neutral with low tight bass. t51i has boomier bass and a little brighter. Physically the t51i doesn't have the headband that splits, has softer more forgiving ear pads and an iOS compatible remote.
You can swap out the 1350 ear pads for the t51s. I haven't tried it, but a lot of owners say it's a great mod for comfort, also nets a bit more bass.
I was using Momentums for travel, but after trying the 1350s. I think the Momentums will live at work now. Just need a good travel amp...
R.Mathews01You can cancel order from transactions menu any time before drop.
Then again 1350 and 553 are kinda different headphones, so it depends on what you actually need from headphones :)
GreywindIve got the AKGs and wanted the BDs as well. Too bad they upped the minimum. It was unlocked at a much lower number and then as the time neared they upped it. Maybe BD was expecting a bigger sale and got their feelings hurt a bit? idk... I'll be pretty bummed if this doesn't happen and despite the extra 7days being added it has actually gone backwards away from 100, :-(
Quick comparison with other popular on ears
Like Danny said the Amperiors and XS and M80s are in the same league. Also would like to include the Martin Logan Mikros 90 and the Beyer T51p.
DT1350 Vs.
Amperior: Amperior has more mid base and sounds punchier unamped. They have great treble clarity for Sennheiser. They do NOT extend as far on the high and low end as the DT1350. Dt1350 scales better with an amp and has better sound stage and a more airy sound.
Close comparo, but I think the DT1350 wins (amped)
XS: A really great alternative, They have a more closed in sound than the DT1350 and are not as detailed, but fold down super small and are more portable. Overall very fun sound signature. If you do not listen to the XS and DT1350 side by side you will be perfectly happy with the XS for popular music. BUT, if you're into Jazz and acoustic the DT1350 pull way ahead.
M80: there is no comparison. The DT1350 is much more detailed.
Mikros 90: Amazing high end clarity that rivals the DT1350. Vocals sound amazing. However, it is light in bass quantity and it's like the clamp of death on your head.
The Mikros 90 does deliver premium materials and very solid construction.
T51P: similar sound to the DT1350 as in they have very clear highs (not as much extension as the DT1350) but not as rolled off as some reviews say. I prefer to use my T51Ps straight out of my DAP and when travelling as they sound better unamped when compared to the DT1350. They also have less clamping so are somewhat more comfortable. They have a fuller sounding low end (again not as much low end extension) and greater bass quantity which is better for when you're on loud planes or trains.
Just some short rants after lunch for folks who may not have had a chance to audition the DT1350 and would benefit from some comparisons.
dealaholicHere is my page where you can see my EQ curves on the DT1350 and T51p. The 2 curves for the 1350 are with original earpads and T51x earpads. EQ curves are essentially the inverse of measurement curves. Measurement curves with the original 1350 earpads assumed a good earpad seal on a dummy head, but in real life the bass will be much thinner.

Bleh, I'd never take the K550 or any variation over the DT1350. Sad to see so many people drop out to switch over to the AKGs, for the fact it has a coiled cable, or for other random reasons. It's weird seeing all the coiled cable complaints considering the earpad/headband improvements far outweigh any additional cable bulk. I'd rather take larger, softer earpads and have a 25ft barbed wire cable than I would the standard earpads with the worlds best and most pliable 3-5ft cable. Besides, coiled cables have their benefits too. One's of this size may not even be noticeable.
I wish they would change the title or description since they added the straight cable in the order page. I feel alot of people skipped this purely cause they didnt want a coiled cable.
