The aptly named Journey—the latest line of watches from Kickstarter-funded BOLDR—speaks to the spirit of adventure. With its rounded case and wire lugs, not to mention its two-subdial chronograph controlled by oversized pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock, the design is decidedly vintage. Indeed, it’s a nod to classic aviators. But fitted with Seiko VK64 meca-quartz—a battery-powered movement with the feel of mechanical—it offers better accuracy than the aviators of old. It also includes a handmade premium leather NATO watch strap.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of three styles: Nighthawk, Wasp (- $10), Sopwith (- $10), or Warhawk (- $10). Quantities of each are limited.
The double-layer, sandwich-style dial is fitted with two disc-track subdials: a 24-hour hand at 3 o'clock and a 60-minute timer at 9 o'clock. The date display is placed at the 6 o'clock mark, part of BOLDR's signature style. The hour markers—stencil-style cutouts with numerals at the even hours and stick markers at the odd hours—add an element of depth to the dial. This is compounded by the unique domed mineral crystal lens, which distorts the dial when viewed from an angle. Bringing the Journey theme full circle, the caseback features mountains behind the Mark of Progress illustration, surrounded by the words "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." The caseback illustration was custom-commissioned by Malaysian artist Kevin Tan specifically for the BOLDR Journey. Moving forward, each edition of the Journey (and subsequent collections from BOLDR watches) will feature different custom caseback artwork.
