The specifications are incomplete, we need to know power output to HEADPHONES not only to speakers!!! Please specify power output to headphones in milliwatts at 25, 100 and 300 ohms as ALL HEAPHONES AMPS should.

Aegis700According to the Operation Manual, the headphone output power is 1W x 2 (Triode RMS), but it does not specify into what impedance. It specifies output impedance from 6 ohms to 300 ohms, but I think that just indicates the range of the output impedance switch. I doubt that it is intended to indicate that it provides the maximum of 1 W per channel for any impedance in the range of 6 ohms to 300 ohms, but I could be wrong. It does specify a THD of 1%.

Head-Fi user Ferbose says, "It can sound as good as other headphone amps I have heard below $1,000 USD..."
Did they mean above, or does this amp only become competitive with the discount?

OyukiAs a fellow MK2 owner I 100% agree. $400 is a good price for this unit, but the MK2 is a class above the MK1 and it deserves to get more exposure in the market.

SnarfSnarfCouldn't agree more! I also am a HA-1A MK2 owner and it is now my favorite headphone amplifier. I upgraded the tubes with Gold Lion Platinum tubes from Upscale Audio and, man ... the MK2 is now my end-game headphone amplifier.! And POWER, holy cow! This thing drives anything with ease! Aesthetically and sonically, it is everything I was seeking ... and more. Love the Cayin HA-1A MK2.

The HA-1A MK2 is sort of a giant killer among tube amps. Not as big one as the KingKo KA101-Pro, yet it is $400 cheaper. The MK2 cannot drive speakers. Nor I have knowledge as whether the MKI is a wonderful headphone amplifier. But hey, it's Cayin. It cannot be so bad.
Though the Keces E40 is sort of a stronger value for a dual drive amp. It's a heavily-biased-towards-class-A amp that, while solid state, many says it sounds tube-ish. And it does 50W out of its speaker taps, meaning it can be a wonderful amplifier for a desktop person or for someone with easy-to-drive speakers (though not 99dB Single drivers like a Lii Crystal 10 or a Lowther or a PHY-HP; too powerful). It also comes with an DAC. But it just works. Will not be there to wow anybody nor it will play beyond 48khz FLAC.

Do I understand it correctly that this amp has 3 tubes inside?
Is that 3 per each channel (L and R) or all together?

rumata13There are four tubes total: 2x EL84, 1x 12AX7, and 1x 12AU7 (all of which are 9-pins). Not sure what make they are... there were/are several manufacturers of each type.

It’s been around for a long time and would cost ~$600 ten years ago, when there was less competition (like Topping, Schiit). It is well-reviewed and apparently solidly built. Just funny how the quoted here Headfi review does not make a very compelling case.
