TheSeekingThe RU-6 is supposed to be richer and smoother. Sounds great without having to tweak anything.
The Qudelix 5k is supposed to be a step back in quality and a bit more strident, but still way better than an Apple dongle, plus Bluetooth mode, microphone, and a nice app with tons of DSP/EQ features. Great if you like to tweak things and save some cash.
I own the RU6 and the RU7, and honestly you'll probably end up with both because the sound signatures are apples and oranges. The RU6 is rich and liquid with a shockingly wide and deep soundstage for something that small. The RU7 is clean, neat and accurate but still musical and emotional. It's not even fair to compare them, I go back and forth between them all the time, they feel like one unit to me.
Also, I don't use any special files with the RU7, just regular PCM. It sounds great, not soft at all, especially not compared to the RU6.
EvshrugAliexpress has its Winter sale on now where the RU6 can be had for around USD $160 and with free shipping. In case you're still in the market for this.
“Cayin gave us a glimpse into the premium audio world for 250$ with the RU6 R-2R. Some may say that there are still big differences in audio performances. I say that the RU6 is the end-game DAC for many out there including me and even a collector’s item because it is one of its kind and I don’t think there will be any other portable USB DAC in the near future with the R2R technology in it.” (https://www.androidbrick.com/cayin-ru6-r-2r-usb-dac-review/)
