CEntrance Cerene dB Headphones

Guys, if you have not heard the Cerene dB, before commenting about their sound and/or comparing them to other headphones, please lock yourself in your bathroom, look at yourself in the mirror and SLAP YOUR FACE WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH while commanding to yourself out-loud, "DO NOT BE AN IDIOT." I mean, slap your face so hard, your eyesight vibrates, like you'd slap the biggest, most irritating fool you've ever witnessed irreparably insult intelligence. Repeat the process until you are no longer compelled to compare these headphones to any other headphones WITHOUT ACTUALLY HEARING THEM FIRST. Seriously, aren't you ashamed? How can you write paragraphs about headphones without actual experience with them and be OK with yourself after that like nothing happened? You only saw a spec sheet and some pictures. You can do that and just go on with your life as if everything is fine and you don't have a problem? YOU DO NOT SEE A PROBLEM WITH THAT BEHAVIOR? If logic was a being, it would facepalm so hard, the sonic boom would blow your eardrums and you wouldn't need to buy any more headphones. Stop being crazy. BUY THE HEADPHONES, LISTEN TO THEM, AND THEN FORM YOUR OPINIONS AND POST ABOUT THEM. How hard can that be? You had enough intelligence to sign up for Drop, but not enough to be conscious that you have to hear something first before commenting on how it sounds? Stop being crazy.

StealthbushidoYeah, man. You're welcome. I think they are something special, especially for being closed...and being the least pricey pair I own. . The Cerene dB remind me of my AudioQuest NightHawk Carbon. It's what first came to my mind when I first heard them. They just have that dryness and clarity. I'm gonna wear them side by side now with the DACport HD to see how different and how similar they sound.

Sure, CEntrance makes decent portable amps. But spending $130 on this unproven, all-plastic headphone would be unwise. The reason is simple: Better options exist at this price-point. For instance... With a Brainwavz pad-swap (standard pleather, Micro Suede, or Cooling Gel Suede), the ~$99 Sivga SV003 and SV006 sound absolutely superb... and are certainly more visually appealing than the 'Cerene dB'. In addition, the Sivga headphones fold flat and include a protective case and two excellent cables. This line of Sivga headphones are hidden gems gone unnoticed due to their uncomfortable, sound-hindering, stock pads. I haven't heard the Sivga Phoenix, so I don't know if its sound justifies its $255 price. I can see it has a fancy (Sendy Aiva-like) frame and decent stock pads. But if sound, comfort, and looks matter, get the SV003 or SV006 with Brainwavz Micro - or Gel - Suede pads, installed in a couple of minutes. You can thank me later.

Perhaps spending $130 on decent, generic-looking, plastic headphones wouldn't be the wisest decision, given what other similarly-priced headphones offer, especially with exchanged earpads. And finally... "Look at how specific he is with the stuff." ... is the quote of the day.

That's all great info. Thanks so much for that description. I never expected you to give up your secret sauce. I just wanted to know how these were different and you've made that clear now. I realize I was pretty aggressive in trying to hunt down that info. Once I'm down the rabbit hole it's sometimes hard to come up for air. I'm genuinely looking forward to hearing what you've achieved and would love to share my honest opinion once I've given them a proper run-in. What you've described sounds like the type of sound I lean toward. I'ts hard to find a closed back headphone that doesn't sound cupped-in and congested through the midrange because of an over bloated bass response. And some of the most recommended closed back headphones like the DT770 are so shrill on the top end that I can't listen for long. Others will disagree, but that's how I hear them. I work in TV production and am very familiar withSony's MDR-7506. They're a real workhorse in the industry, but I know what you mean about sounding metallic. I can also appreciate your thoughts on the cabling. I think, though, that a longer and detachable cable might be something to think about for the next iteration. Anyway... Glad we're on speaking terms. I apologize for getting carried away but I am unashamed of my passion for headphones and great sound.

As an owner of these I will agree that the only thing I don't like about them is the cable length. While I don't usually find it an issue when I'm using them with the DACPort HD I do find it frustrating when I want to listen with my other DAC that's not portable. So @StivVid I totally see your point there and would love a longer cable/detachable cable in the future.

JakewA couple points: The CEntrance Cerene dB Headphones have nothing to do with ATH-50 in terms of design or the sound signature. We voiced them ourselves specifically to better control the overwhelming bass on the ATH. Our customers know our amps and DACs for balanced sound, which stays true to the quality of the recording. We did the same here. Cerene dB are very well balanced in tonal signature. You noticed correctly that the folding mechanism resembles several popular models on the market. We cater to a lot of traveling audio professionals (Musicians, Producers, Recording engineers) and the ability to fold the headphones for easy packing was very important for us. That's why we chose the folding design. Having said that we noticed that the AT-50 are a little too small for comfort and push on the head too much after long listening sessions. So we made the Cerene dB headphones ever so slightly larger, and gave them thick, cushioned pads, that make it easy to wear these during long mixing or listening sessions, without creating fatigue.

Because there's not a review section for these yet, and since some really strange people have taken the liberty of commenting all willy-nilly about the sound of these headphones without actually hearing them first, as an owner, I want to also take the liberty to comment about them. This is just my opinion. We all hear and process sounds differently. :) What do I like about the Cerene dB? They're bassy yet detailed. These things are pineal gland-punishing in my opinion, yet the lows remain clear. That's rare for me. Usually, ear-filling bass masks its details and nuances. Not these. The bass is heavy yet articulate, with the mids and highs always staying on top, never being dominated. They have closed cups yet sound deep, wide, and open. The sound field is very expansive and far-reaching in relation to the position of the ear cups on the ears, causing me to think the pads are not sealing against my ear. While it's funnily annoying, the reason is good: they just sound open while also shutting down plenty of ambient noise. Oh, I also like how they sound dry and isolated. Some closed headphones sound cuppy and somewhat reverby. Not these. The Cerene dB just go against the current like salmon. Usually, you have to choose one thing or the other with headphones. There's always a compromise. Thankfully, these somehow are studio monitors that translate my mixes when I make music yet I can also use them as my fun headphones for music enjoyment. They're not fatiguing, so I can wear them for a long time. My ears don't feel stuffy, dirty and worn from being bombarded with sound for a while, so I can mix for longer. Signature-wise, they have none of that flat, linear sound that while pretty on paper, makes you yawn. They're balanced, yet instead of sounding all even and restrained, they sound big and rowdy while remaining composed. They look unassuming, sure, but they don't sound how they look. If you have such a god-like power of just seeing headphones and knowing how they sound based on how they look, why are you wasting your life on this audio peasantry? :P Mine look good and feel solid. No creaks or weird noises, and everything glides and rotates smoothly. The plastic is nice. It's smooth and featureless, but not cheap-looking. My Sennheiser HD 6XX look and feel cheaper in comparison. The market is so used to paying big hundreds for flashy-looking, subpar-sounding headphones, we can't possibly believe something under $200 can sound amazing. Well, that's very far from the truth. As an example, the Cerene dB obliterate my (2015) Audio Technica ATH-M70x in every department, including build quality, and those things are constantly $300. It's no contest. I don't care how good the M70x look, the sound quality and signature just can't compare to these. They sound clear, but not clearer or better. If a non-audiophile would wear both one after the other, I'm sure they'd say something is wrong with the sound of the ATH-M70x. I've always thought so and my ears have a little bit of training. The first time I wore the Cerene dB, my mind was conflicted and challenged, because I wasn't expecting such a big, clear sound out of closed headphones. Every time I wear them, it's like the first day. I'm like, "But how?" It's just the truth, man. If you see $130 and start writing non-sense and comparisons, you should worry about your mental health first. I got the DACport HD/Cerene dB bundle on the CEntrance website. The value is great. When a company exceeds your expectations, as a happy, satisfied customer, you rave about them. No need to get paid for a review. You already got your payment in a value-packed product. Peace!

raansire7It's truly humbling to know that years of experimenting with the weight of a single glue dot, to make sure it doesn't slow down the movement of the diaphragm and add unwanted coloration, could make someone so satisfied with the eventual sound signature!

Curious, have you heard any other $700 headphones? The NightHawk Carbon isn't known for being especially detailed or tonally accurate. You may not "follow forum hype". But with these headphones, you're clearly attempting to create hype.

The shell absolutely screams "old ATH-M50s". I can absolutely understand why the look of these would raise an eyebrow or two. That said, it's ultimately the drivers and tuning that count.

This is my favorite closed back headphone I've heard. I use mine all the time! The first thing I noticed about them is they don't sacrifice on the sound stage at all, which really surprised me cause my experience with most closed backs was lackluster in that department. Also, the bass. Oh man that bass. It hits the perfect sweet spot. You can really tell that the designer of these was going for a realistic lifelike tone for the bass here and it works. A lot of you claim you want to support American audio companies. Well if there was ever a product worthy of you putting your money where your mouth is this is it.

Am I the only one bothered by this? How can anyone just see pictures and specs of headphones on the Internet and proceed to translate the contents of their large intestine into words totally unrelated to an ACTUAL EXPERIENCE with them, which is...you know... ACTUALLY HEARING THEM FIRST?

Bought these cans directly from CEntrance web store (with the DACport HD bundle). These headphones are fun to listen to, especially when paired with DACport HD. Personally I think the bundle @ centrance.com is a better deal, but either way I recommend you to try the Cerene dB out!
