When CEntrance brought the DACport Slim to our attention in 2014, we couldn’t wait to have a listen. And once we had a listen, we couldn’t wait to get it in front of the Audiophile Community. Building on the success of the DACport Classic (well regarded on Stereophile, Head-Fi, and elsewhere), the Slim packs its predecessor’s big sound into a 2.5-ounce package that fits comfortably in the palm of your hand—and it’s available exclusively on Massdrop.
Equipped with the AKM AK4490 chip and a cap-free signal path, DACport Slim can play everything from 16-bit, 44.1 kHz all the way up to 24-bit, 192 kHz high-resolution recordings. The asynchronous USB connection runs using the XMOS U8 chip. With 109 dB of dynamic range and a total harmonic distortion of just 0.003%, this DAC is equipped to bring out the best in your music files.
Featuring low- and high-gain settings with a maximum output power of 450 mW, the DACport Slim is capable of driving everything from the Shure SE846 IEMs to high-end headphones from the likes of AKG, Audeze, Beyerdynamic, and Sennheiser. The 3.5-millimeter jack handles both headphone and line-out duties, while the aluminum housing—complete with a tactile volume-control scroll wheel in the upper righthand corner—ensures durability for years to come.
