I was all sad that I missed this drop, then I saw the price and didn't feel bad. Four years ago I got the Recon tanto at AAFES for $42.00. Why are these so expensive now? I'm going to have to go back on base and see what they cost there now.
AllisonYou never know with aafes, sometimes they have stuff really cheap, but at that price it could have been old stock with 440c blade. If you got an xhp blade at that price, you got a very good deal.

AllisonYou got the older Aus8 version. These are xhp.
Grab these while you can if you want the xhp version. Cold steel is changing the blade steel on new production to s35vn.

In the picture, the "OD green" has a plain edge. In the description, it says "Fully serrated", and the blade width the same as on the black, serrated model.
Is the "OD green" version serrated or not?

Cold Steel knife prices often vary, and the Recon 1 can often be found cheaper, but you have to spend the time and effort to look. I was lucky when I found my Recon 1 (Spear Point Plain Edge in CTS XHP) for $66.32 on Amazon. Those sort of sales tend to be over quickly. Though I like the look of the Spear Point, the Clip Point may be the better shape for a user.

why does the blade thickness change between two colors of the same blade style?

legopikaThanks for the heads up! You are correct - The OD Green is plain edge. Specs have been corrected. @Katode

Is there a way to get the spear-point without the serration?

These are cool (as are most CS knives), but when you factor in the shipping cost, the price here is average retail at best. Drop it by at least $20 and this would be a no-brainer deal.

So... Not at all "average retail" then... I just searched around and couldn't find a new Recon 1 for anything less than around $90. Of course deals can be had on anything, but I think this is a good drop.

SliceyDiceyAmazon has the half-serrated tanto right now for 75 and change .. it all depends on what style you're looking for. IMO $75 + shipping isn't a "must have it" deal. Others may disagree. That's fine :-)

Got mine the other day. Razor sharp out of the box. The ergos are not quite to my liking but it still fits my hand. Really though, it's just a bad ass big knife. Great look...tough materials and BIG! Price is right especially for this steel...

Received my OD green plain edge clip point. All handle colors of the Recon 1 with CTS-XHP steel are getting more difficult to find since they switched to S35VN steel.

Does the OD green version have the old hollow grind or the newer sabre grind?
