If you are looking for decent speakers that get the job done without breaking the bank, then the original Drop for these was a steal. Overall they are highly rated for their pricepoint in most reviews and comparisons and they still provide a well rounded listening experience while at your computer. They will not replace your home theatre 3.1/5.1/7.1 system of considerable more size and wattage, however they will give you a bit of bass response and give you a solid overall range when listening to music, spoken word or playing games. If you can get these for under $80 I'd pull the trigger again if I needed another set. I also have the next size down for a second PC and these are far more responsive.
I am enjoying these speakers quite a bit. They sound punchy and clear. Most everything on the Internet is mastered with the bass turned all the way up so most of the time I have the bass knob turned way down and the treble knob turned up to three quarters.
I have mine plugged into a FiiO DAC/Amp, through the line out jack in the back, and it's a great setup.
My only issue is that even while the speakers are powered on they will temporarily shut themselves off when no noise is coming through the line so, very often, the first few seconds of a song or YouTube video will not be audible until the speakers kick back on. Seems totally unnecessary for a pair of powered, wired, speakers.
jaxdiosThat makes sense. I didn't assume it was there to be an annoyance but that doesn't stop it from being irksome all the same. For what it's worth, I would not trade these speakers in for a different set despite the minor annoyance.
Sound-wise, it's fine for the price. I came from a Logitech Z623, which focused more on the subwoofer. But I'm not too much into BASSSS anymore, so the T40 suits me well. I'm knocking off a star here because I really wish the power on/off was a separate button instead of being built into the volume knob. I'm very particular about the levels I have in my Windows settings, audio programs, and hardware, so it's not the smoothest process for me to turn these speakers on every time I boot my computer and try to put the volume knob at the exact setting it was at before.
Excellent mid-range, somewhat subdued highs, and the lack of deep bass one expects from such small drivers. These can play loudly without audible distortion and are a very good choice for the average gaming or basic home use PC. If you seek true audiophile quality, seek somewhere.
