Product Description
Named a Red Dot Design Award winner in 2015, the CuttleLola Dotspen is the world’s first electric drawing pen. It runs about 10 times faster than a traditional pen, allowing artists to complete comics, illustrations, and any other stippling projects more efficiently with little or no wrist fatigue Read More

A few notes that future buyers might find useful: -Full charge is enough for about half an hour of continuous running; enough for an A5 page in my case. -An A5 page at about 20-30% coverage used up roughly 5% of the refill, so a single refill should be more than enough for 20 A5-sized sketches. -Works best when there is a hard surface underneath the paper to be sketched on. For journals and sketchbooks, heavy stock that lays flat and even under its on weight is best, otherwise one may have to keep the paper in place by applying pressure with the other hand. -The trick is to find the sweet spot of tip-to-paper distance. This will come naturally after using the pen long enough. -Cap does not post properly.

Theroc Theroc: Could you measure the overall length, lenght of the thinner part and thickness, max, and thin part of the refill? I would like to see if it is possible to use any other refills in it.
Axel.seI'd love to. Unfortunately I'm out of town for a few days.

This pen is a blast. I highly suggest it. A quick sketch to show you some results...

This is a proper drop. Haven't seen these anywhere for less than MSRP. Intrigued by the Dotspen ever since I saw it on the RedDot awards website. I'm joining this one. Too bad there is no additional refill option.

OMG (never used that before) I ve spent many hours of my life sketching like this with normal pens. If this really works as well as it seems I ll buy a lot more than just one. A question about the refill though. Are these easily available anywhere else?
dedalianThis pen is, as far as I know, the first of its kind, and it was released last year. I stipple most of my sketches these days, because frankly, dots hide my lack of talent. So I've wanted this one since I first found out about it a few months ago. The pen is available from the manufacturer through Amazon for $58+7.50 and the refills (pack of 5) are $3.5+7.5. Both ship from overseas. The few reviews on Amazon are mostly very positive.
RedDot don't usually hand out awards to fads; previous winners include the Faber-Castell eMotion, the Graf von Faber-Castell Initio and the Lamy 2000 and Studio, to name a few. This pen is in good company, so I have high hopes for this one.
I suspect that the serious artist might feel that this pen suppresses their individuality, their unique touch. And it remains to be seen if durability and reliability are as good as the design.

TherocRed dot is a pure design award and some of the products they have awarded whare utterly useless. True that this have only been a couple of times but a red dot is not a guarantee that it will be a good product.

Uhh, they'd love this pen in the prison. Quick modification to run a needle and you'd have a quiet tattoo gun. Interesting.

Some more information about refills would be helpful. Are these proprietary cartridges?

Got a response from Massdrop to my query on why shipping for two Dotspens is more than twice the cost of individual shipping.
The response defies any logic and sounds borderline stupid - "Thanks for contacting Massdrop Support. I just double checked our details for shipping, the price negotiated for 2 of these shipping domestically is $6.75. Unfortunately, I don't know the exact reasoning behind the shipping costs. There are many factors involved in determining the cost of shipping, including the following such as the ship from address, ship to address and value of the item."
So a customer has to place two orders to avoid this?!!! <perplexed>
AlephNullA few guesses, and they are just guesses: 1- whatever boxes they use to fit two pens are disproportionately larger than the boxes they use for a single pen. Or 2- a single pen maybe small enough to ship via First Class USPS, while two pens would exceed it's weight and volume limits, thereby necessitating a different, more expensive, service be used. Or 3- they "negotiated" a low rate for a specific number of packages of specific (single pen) size and weight; said rate would not apply to a package of greater dimensions, etc, etc.
I could go on, but all such explanations are rendered irrelevant by simply shipping each pen in its own box when a customer places and order for more than one pen. Anyway, the discrepancy is only $1.25 and can easily be avoided by the minor hassle of placing the order twice. Certainly less of a hassle than contacting customer support.

Any way to add multiple refill packs? I only see a way to add additional pen + refill. I'd like to get one pen and a set of each refill color.

Got this pen last week. Super-Fun to use, but after only 2 days, the pen no longer charges. It's not the cord (it works on other things), it's the pen--the light that shows it's charging no longer comes on, and even leaving the pen overnight, it's not charged, so it's not just the little light. Now we have the joy of getting bounced back and forth between the manufacturer and Massdrop to see who will repair, replace, or refund the cost of the pen (I'd prefer repair or replacement). Wish me luck. I'm starting to feel like a yo-yo, here. Not pleased at the quality (or QC) of a pen that gives up the ghost after only about an hour of use.
