Product Description
Your headphones might deliver clear, powerful sound—but if they’re not comfortable, you won’t be wearing them for long. An inexpensive replacement for worn-out ear pads, these Dekoni pads are compatible with the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x, ATH-M20x, ATH-M30x, and ATH-M40x, as well as the Sony MDR-V7 506 Read More
Do these pads create more space between your head and the drivers? My main complaint with the M50x is comfort, due to not enough room for my ear inside the can.
Strange, since I always felt the M50x have a super-deep ears-kicking sub-bass. Comparing the M50x to the HD6XX right now, I would say the HD6XX have more bass (not sub-bass) on Mockingbird, and on Sorry not Sorry the sub-bass on M50x kicks way harder, it almost blew my ears out because I forgot to turn down the volume before switching from the Senn's, big mistake on my part. My M50x have Dekoni memory foam sheepskin leather earpads, but I had the Brainvawz pleathers before and I didn't noticed almost any difference (not like when I switched from stocks to Brainwavz's).
If you liked the relaxed laid-back sound of the Momentum 2, you'll love the HD6xx. They're not analytical, soundstage is not too big (I'd say just a step above the M50x), but they sound sooo sweet and enjoyable with almost anything. For classical music maybe they're not the best, but as an all-rounder I doubt nothing can beat these beauties.
How do these compare to the HM5s or Shure earpads? Currently got the Shure ones and I'm very impressed by their quality, but I'd love the HM5 white ones...
jfleit18I did not buy the Dekoni pads. Having tried 3 different pads (besides the original) I feel I have invested enough in the M50x as far as pads go. future purchases will go towards new headphones or possible improvements to my HD600s (if there is such a thing). I’m interested to hear others impressions of the Dekoni pads tho! Specially if they have experience with some or all of the pads I listed :)
Thoughts: Velour Pads on M50x's
I am pretty sure that it was my lack of intuition, but I cannot use the velour pads I bought from this drop.
The issue that I have with them is that all mids and bass tones are completely overrun by the treble. This is a very unusual change for me since I'm used to bass heavy sets that ruin treble. I believe this has something to do with the way the drivers in the M50x are designed, I noticed there are ports running around the face of the cup that are separate from the driver. To me it appears these are designed to port air/bass/lower tones using the seal that the PU leather once created. Overall the sound is just extremely treble heavy so much that I can barely make out snare drums with the velour pads on. Another thing I don't like about these pads are the size. The original pads from the M50x have a wider opening which really go around my ears, with these pads, they are slightly smaller to which then my ears are being treated more like on-ear headphones than over-ear.
Again I'd conclude this note by saying I did not put full research into purchasing this product and I merely wanted to try replacing the original PU leather pads with something breathable and comfortable. My original pads are fairly damaged, as the surface is peeling off quite substantially which is the reason I had purchased replacement padding.
If there is something that I am not aware of, not doing right with these pads, or they just weren't the right idea, I am open to discussion about that since I want to continue using these headphones without stuff peeling off the pads.
iTetsuI dont know if you are still looking for some sort of solution but I didnt like my Velour pads until I stuffed a single-coil lengthed cut of cat-5 (ethernet) cable under the pads.. lifting them a bit from my ears reduced some of the sibilance that came about when I swapped initially.
expontheriseThat is quite an interesting approach to a headphone issue, though I can see how that works. Might be something to try out sometime.
My solution since then was that I went over to an online retailer for genuine replacement pads from Audio Technica. For $25, the experience is much closer to the original as 'expected' of paying more for the original brand.
Standard "leather" isn't actually leather, it's pleather. Dekoni used to refer to these are "real leather" because there is some leather fiber used in the backing cloth, but what you see and what touches your head is polyurethane. That said, the price is low if you want to replace the original pleather pads with new pleather pads. But don't join the drop thinking you're getting a big upgrade on the cheap.
strooperYes for our sheepskin leather you’d need to use the elite series drop.
these are protein leather, though not traditional leather as ours is egg shell based. Thx
these are our economy value line of pads
Your welcome. You should probably know that with the thicker pads might change the sound a little in addition to the soundstage. I hear the pleather and sheepskins change it the least. A friend of mine had the Dekoni m50x Elite sheepshin ones and they seem to not change much(They're expensive without a drop though, $70. $50 for the premium series pleather I think). The Brainwavz hybrids do slightly change the sound, but it doesn't sound significantly different to me and because they were on sale on Amazon.
birdlandBased on how they affect the perceived sound from my various Sivga headphones, the Brainwavz Micro Suede Pads will likely improve the M50's sub-bass extension and balance-out their mids and treble. The result: a less-forward, but more spacious and natural overall sound.
And with a larger interior space for your ears, comfort will be a vastly improved compared to using the M50's stock pads.
For more bass and less treble, choose Brainwavz' Sheepskin Leather Pads.
I am planning to use these for my ATH-M50 (not the M50x). I hope they fit well as the description does not mention about pairing with this older model from ATH.
