I've still got the original Meze 99 pads on mine and can't complain. Already very comfortable. Making these for Meze seems a bit of a shot in the dark as their own are super comfy. Pointless really.
mark5hsI have the oval and yes its fine for now but feels cheaper than stock and even more so than Dekoni

This is something that is probably an acquired taste but it's what I do with my Meze Noir so I want to put it out for if anyone else wants to try. I use Mr Speakers Alpha Dog pads. The lamb skin leather ones. I bought the pads for a different headphone but when I tried them on my Meze they became paired for life. It doesn't increase the bass much if at all. It does add texture and definition to it though. Also the soundstage is greatly increased and the overall sound quality as well. I also tried the different cables meze makes for this headphone. I didn't like the $100+ balanced one. It made the treble painful and messed with the sound signature. The $50 2.5mm balanced one is good though. It gives a more audiophile sound if that make sense. I'll use the stock cable for my relaxing laying my head back on the chair and relax sound and the balanced cable for a little more audiophile sound. I've heard other headphones but these are my keepers for reference. Hifiman Ananda, Monolith M570, Sennheiser Hd660s, Meze Noir, Moondrop KXXS, Tin Hifi P1. Hope this helps anyone out there :-)
hmm... Already love the sound the stock pads provide, and the included second pads seem to do what these are advertising. I wear the 99 Noir's for over 12 hours at a time and the only complaint is that they lack breathability. Weird choice of design and material, seems to just be an exaggeration of what the phones already do... more comfort, density, and low end. If anything I would want pads that reduce the low end, raise the mids/high mids, and increase breathability so my ears don't get as hot. Looking forward to some reviews.
TheWolfbrainwaves makes some (I think velour) pads that fit these those do what you ask but some people find the material doesn't agree with them and it's lower quality but also cheaper than Dekoni offerings
I’ve seen reviews where people replace their old denon pads with that one and they said it was good. I mean. I think dacs and amps can always make a big difference even if the power isn’t the issue. My emu teaks don’t need much power and sound good on anything but still sound even better on my jot and my rnhp.
I don’t know how well the 2000s scale though so you may not get a huge benefit. I think considering all the gear you have or have had I may consider getting new headphones because I dunno if the 2000s will benefit quote as much with higher end amps or anything. I have a dragonfly red that I gave to my gf (got it free with my elegia) and it powers my 250 ohm dt990s so I think it pushes decent enough power that you’ll be okay with most cans you grab.
although I also think in general that a desktop amp would be nice to have and either the Asgard I think you’d be okay enough to not necessarily need anything else unless you started going into the really high end gear like into the thousands dollar range lol. But even those will sound good on the Asgard I think. It has a pretty good neutral sig and plays well with others.
I don’t have one but I’ve listened to a few of my headphones on my brother in laws and I I’d get it myself if I was looking in that price range. I prefer it over my jot honestly but I don’t need it with my jot rnhp and tuba on my desk lol.
If anything I’m thinking I’m thinking Im ready to jump into a higher end dac like the bitfrost 2 so that’ll likely be my next gear upgrade (after I recover from my eikon purchase lol.)
Aech661lol yeah so maybe at the moment I'll look into to replace ear pad for D2000 -> new headphone -> Asgard -> maybe new dac if Dragonfly Red to Asgard doesn't work out well.
Though who knows, in this hobby things are always changing and we'll always want the next best thing after you got the current best thing LOL.
Thanks again for all your help (and very long thread LOL) and good luck on your Eikon and Bifrost 2 purchase I'll keep you updated!
Meze 99 are already bass canons. Why would anybody buy pads that give them even more bass? I'm looking for new pads that will reduce the bass while keeping the rest of the FR intact...
Very interesting. I've always liked Dekoni's replacement pads in the past for t50rp rolling. I've been really satisfied with the Brainwavz angled sheepskin oval pads I replaced my stock 99 noir pads with. They didn't detour too far off of the original small pads and keep my ears off of the felt...and that glorious sub bass :) Plus they are half the price of Dekoni's, that's meaningful to me in this covid economy.
Sound changes? Frequency chart to give us some idea? Not the first time we've seen an attempt at a more comfortable pad for the Meze... the larger one that ships with the noir (in addition to the original) changed the signature in a negative way for most people (TMMV). If this statement is true there should be some sort of quantifiable/audible change:
"Hand-tested by engineers at both companies, these earpads feature soft, supple sheepskin wrapped in dense, slow-rebounding memory foam. Their shape and material composition not only optimize comfort—they increase isolation and soundstage, too."
Pad rolling changes the signature, sometimes only a little, sometimes a lot. Some specific description (both companies perfectly capable of measuring the changes) would be nice before DROPping $55 on a product with no reviews would be nice.
yanamj29The second set of pads that Meze created for the 99 were actually the larger, in response to many users finding the original pads too small (basically large on-ear for many.) The larger pads were intended to address this. The Noirs that I bought came with both, and while the larger ones were slightly more comfortable, I felt that the signature lost a bit of its magic (a little bit of a mid-bass hump and slightly more sucked out mids if I recall, but its been a while.) Again, YMMV. Some clearly prefer the larger pads, although from my readings here and elsewhere that is a minority opinion.
The good news is that I got on the chat with the Dekoni people yesterday and they let me know the interior dimensions. Wouldn't you know, they added it to their website today.
So... According to both manufacturers websites, here are all the relevant Interior dimensions:
Meze manufactured pads:
Larger 64 mm height x 45 mm width x 23 mm depth:±1mm
Small61 mm height x 44 mm width x 21 mm depth: ±1mm
Dekoni Pads
63 mm height x 47 mm width x 22 mm depth
TLDR: The Dekoni split the difference between the small and large pads from Meze, in terms of height and depth, but are slightly wider than both. - B
