Product Description
The belt is handcrafted from genuine English bridle leather sourced from a UK tannery that has been around for over 150 years. The leather is 100-percent vegetable pit-tanned, a traditional English tanning process that takes several months to complete Read More
Oh yeah, I totally get it. I agree that hide looks like the color I received. It's just not what I was expecting. But I've already returned it to Massdrop. I'd buy a DMO belt again, just not in that color.
nedwardsBeing full grain and vegetable-tanned leather, this bridle leather belt should patina nicely and achieve the tan color (darker and richer color) in a few months. I have a brown belt from a drop more than a year ago and patina really well.
Mine arrived today & I'm impressed by its quality. I have had a Bianchi gun leather belt that I have worn everyday for over fifteen years that is finally starting to bite the dust. Have been looking for a durable replacement for awhile now. I'll let you know in fifteen years if this was it but for now I'll simply recommend these for the price!
Oh. And I'll hit that "Request" button to bring this drop back around so others can have an opportunity to buy one as well.
I just received my belt (Havanna with Silver buckle). I was pretty bummed at all the delays and not sure what to expect. I usually buy higher end department store type belts when they are on sale at TJ Maxx or Marshalls (MSRP $70-80, marked down to $20). I figured this would be a little upgrade because it was handmade but at about the same dimensions as my other belts, I was honestly getting it more for the "made in USA" factor than anything and not expecting there to be much of a tangible quality difference.
I can say without hesitation that this belt is at another level of craftsmanship that I didn't know existed when it comes to belts. The quality of the leather, the careful cutting of the holes, the perfectly measured fit, the smooth buckle. It is meticulously detailed yet completely understated. This belt has blown away my expectations, and for the price paid is a downright steal. When I go home tonight, I will literally be taking all my other belts out of closet and donating them to goodwill, then eagerly awaiting the next time these DMO belts hit Massdrop.
It may sound silly to gush about a belt like this, but it really is at a higher level of quality than I knew was out there. Much like the first time I handled a handmade automatic watch, the impression is immediate and tangible. If this belt were priced at $125 it would still be a great buy. Thanks Massdrop!
reformindedThat was how I purchased my belts before as well. Needless to say, once I purchased one of Scott's belts, I did the same as you and got rid of all my other belts. I am now the proud owner of 6 DMO belts!
I'm confused about the sizing as well. My current belt is a 34 without the buckle, but is closer to 36 with the buckle. So should I order a 34 or a 36?
I'm very pleased to be introducing Don't Mourn, Organize! to Massdrop! Scott, the owner of DMO, is a great craftsman and his products are beautiful - there are small signs of quality everywhere, from the teardrop belt holes and beautifully burnished edges to the stitched-in buckle and brand stamp on the inside face.
Some of you may notice that there is a bit of a white-ish film on the belts in the photos; this is no accident, as it is the tallow and wax from the finishing process. It will quickly disappear with use, or can be buffed off to achieve a nice shine. It's also indicator that this leather is the real deal English bridle leather and not the American version of the stuff.
My belts just came in and I just feel compelled to say how happy I initially am with these. The measurement recommendations in the description were perfect. I'm a size 30 waist and got the 34 size belt and they fit perfectly to wear either dead center mid hole or one hole over for a slightly tighter fit. They both fit great, look great, and I've looked them all over and quality seems awesome. So pleased and the wait was worth it.
wilarsenyYep, like @zz_upenn said, that looks like bloom. Don't fret! From my previous comment:

Even at $75, this is a fantastic deal. This leather is definitely the real deal. One thing (not sure if it was mentioned or not) is that this leather has very little to no stretch which is great for you. Unlike other leathers that are either sourced from cheaper tanneries or have more stretch in general (Chromexcel), this will be nearly the same size for years to come and won't stretch out and become unusable.
The bloom on the leather is an awesome feature too. It buffs out very easily or can be left on as is. This is just the waxes coming to the surface of the leather which is indicative of its overall quality.
At these lower prices, you could expect a lot of manufacturers or makers to cut some corners but you won't find that with these. Edges are all beveled and burnished which takes a LOT of time. You're getting your money's worth here!
Just wanted to share an old review I did of my DMO belt back in 2015: http://afine-toothcomb.blogspot.com/2015/06/in-review-dont-mourn-organize-bridle.html
After a couple years, I'd amend my review to note that it's my favorite belt hands down from a number of makers I have belts from. Love the care and detail that goes into DMO's products. I kinda wish I needed another one.
d4nimalI just got one one a few drops ago, and I am loving it. It has a great finish for the money (this is not a $400-$500 Fendi or Gucci belt guys), but the real difference is that it is simply one big block of leather. In my experience all but the finest stitched belts eventually die, but these live on forever if taken care of. The other benefit is that they get ever softer and more flexible with time, and they develop a beautiful patina. My belt is less than a year old, so it still looks new (I wear it every day), but I know this will get that great supple sheen with long-term wear.
I just bought a black belt out of need a few weeks ago. I regret that I could not have stuck out for this.
