Friends:
Today I’m happy to announce our Drop Studio collaboration with Ball Watch Co: The Drop + Ball Night Train DLC.
You may already know Ball as a maker of superb Swiss timepieces with tritium indices and clean, classic styles. Or perhaps if you’re a history buff, as the American pocket watch company that created the Official Railroad Standard, the first industrial standard for chronometer design that made trains all over the world safely run on time (and is the direct ancestor of the COSC standard used today for Swiss Made timepieces).
But what’s especially worth knowing about Ball is their stalwart commitment to excellence in all of what they do. A Ball watch means an exceptionally made, carefully regulated Swiss mechanical movement, rugged case construction (shock resistant to 5,000 g) skillfully finished handsets and dials (always adorned with tritium indices), and all of it assembled with control and precision. No less should be expected from the watch company that prides itself on “accuracy under adverse conditions”.
We here at Drop Studio have long been fans of the original Night Train DLC, a jet black adaptation of the Ball Fireman with a striking constellation of tritium tubes, one for every minute and hour track.
We wanted to not just revive the Night Train, but to make it better than before. For this, Drop Studio did a complete redesign of the cosmetics with an entirely new dial and handset, then color matched the date wheel and crown. We kept the same excellent Ball Caliber RR1103 (Swiss made ETA 2824-2 in élaboré grade) movement as the original, then took the luminous even further, by upping the tritium rating from T-25 to T-100. We also added a padded perforated leather band as a stylish dress option (The DLC coated bracelet is also available).
We also revamped another feature: The price. Our Drop + Ball Night Train DLC is available for pre-order starting at $849 (with the stainless steel bracelet version premiering at $999)
Here for questions!

@leopadron Checking in on this request as well as production schedule; despite the watch’s drop extension are we still anticipating a September shipment?
I sent an email inquiry since I could get no engagement to my concerns or questions when this was still available to pre-order. 5-7 business days for a response by e-mail is pretty bad. Didn't see a customer service number I could call. I've not experienced such a difficult method for customer service in recent memory!
Once again, I have wandered onto an item that I have no interest in, but I have not lost my need to comment. For this kind of money, I can get a decent cell phone that not only tells me the time, in analog or digital, but has a shitload more functionality. In defense of the watch, it probably does a much better job in surviving water challenges.
14themoneyYou should check out Patek Philip or A. Lange and Sohn prices then. You could buy your own cell tower. Mechanical watches are about wearing a tiny, hand made machine as jewelry. Some of the more esoteric ones don’t even tell the time. Not sure why you felt the need to come in and make an asinine comment, instead of just asking what drives the value of these.
Glen8as soon as Drop dropped the "Mass" from Massdrop they started dropping the ball on their new drops, forcing regular massdroppers to pursue drops outside of Drop as the prices would not drop...
I guess the name change made sense? Kinda?
Glen8Yo when did these discussions get so full of dumb dorks making pointless comments like this that contribute nothing to the discussions or humanity?
I'd get this in a heartbeat as I'm a big fan of Ball Watch Co. (and deals), but for the extremely irritating and baffling design choice of not having the syringe hands point to the minute markers! In fact they BLOCK the minute markers! Literally the very thing they are designed to point to, and the very purpose of choosing these hands, other than style choice. Completely nonsensical and it says to me that someone at Drop thought that syringe hands and a sector-ish dials are popular now so let's put them together to make some mo-nay. Ball doesn't do this on any of their watches as far as I can see, nor does Sinn who uses syringe hands to great, and famous, effect. I'm a fan of everything about this watch but one, and that one fault makes me see this as a way to make a quick buck by trading on the Ball heritage and preying upon unsuspecting shoppers.
Greaat to see. Would have pre-ordered if posted prior to deadline. I inquired about this prior to the pre-order along with other questions and didnt receive any feedback. I sent an email to support on 8/31 and no response there yet either. Could you or someone habdling this drop follow up with me?
AsHpersonActually, if you use the health monitoring stuff from the band (I do), it would make a lot of sense. Best of both worlds: fancy automatic for style & flex, cheap smartband for smarty-ness. My father actually does that sometimes hahaha
Lack of accurate and timely communication is a problem, reflects badly on the company and is supremely easy to fix. Not saying anything lets everyone out here speculate on the worst possible scenarios.
SAY SOMETHING. Update often! Under promise and over deliver! Be accurate in your dates and promises, and timely in your updates and apologies when those dates slip. Not saying anything to people whose money YOU HAVE IN HAND is bad business. The lack of update makes me want to drop DROP and I am a multi-unit purchaser. TALK TO US.
Ball makes great watches. Fantastic value for the money. I’ve owned three and they all gave my Breitling a run for their money in terms of fit and finish.
Also, about this DLC finish, I’ve got an Engineer Master II Diver GMT with DLC coating. I purchased it as my travel watch, with the assumption that the DLC coating would wear off a little bit, and give it a cool worn in look. That has surprisingly not happened. There’s zero wear on the DLC coating, and I’ve used it in some tough situations and slammed it into many various objects. I’d venture to say this DLC finish is more scratch resistant than nearly any finish (besides those specialty finishes IE ceramic).
I have two Ball watches, one in 18k rose gold (with a useless thermometer) and the other stainless. No other lum compares to the tritium tubes. Neither of my watches are chronometer certified but both run +/- 2 sec a day. Never had to service either watch. This Drop is not my taste but in my experience Ball makes solid watches.
fishstickxxxI think Ball makes great watches, but these days they’re out of reach. The pre-order price just about eats my entire monthly disability benefit!!
