The Best... until ProTech upgraded...

I'm a Huge Knife Nerd in recovery, but failing. I have too many knives. I tried to figure out which knife would keep me satisfied so that I wouldn't feel the compulsion to buy more. I came to realize, I already had that knife and this is it. Now ProTech has upgraded the steel to MagnaCut, but apparently isn't available, hopefully just for the time being. I looked back at the knives I bought from MassDrop, and they are mostly brilliant collaborations. I don't know why you got out of the knife business, but please get back into it...

Ferrum Forge really knows how to design a knife for someone with large hands. I wear a 2XL glove and this knife fits in my hand like it was custom designed for me. The action was glassy smooth straight out of the box. This knife is extremely fidget friendly. The placement of the button and flipper make it so you can flip it open and swing it closed without repositioning your fingers. The detent is just strong enough for a confident flip and not so strong that it hurts your finger even after an hour of flipping it. The aluminum is extremely smooth yet provides enough traction that it won't slip in your hands. Blade was perfectly centered. There wasn't any lock stick. The grinds aren't perfectly symmetrical, but it will be fixed after the first time I sharpen it. I love it so much that I hesitate to use it, but it is a knife after all.

Loved my mordax…til I first held my Malibu

Save yourself the money and get the Malibu. I spent $317 to get the Malibu. I know I overpaid like crazy over sticker but they were sold out and have been for over a year and I was tired of waiting so I went to eBay and made some asshole flipper who price gouges very happy…but fuck it u only live once and it’s instantly jumped to the top of my collection. Just one minute with the Malibu and you’ll fall in love guaranteed. Protech took what they learned from the mordax and applied it to the Malibu making it waaaaaaay better. I still like my mordax but it’s like half as good as my Malibu 🤷‍♂️😅

Ergonomic and a fun fidget flipper

Smooth contoured edges, no hotspots, a light simple button lock, effortless detent for flipper deployment, a blade design with substantial 20CV belly, light weight, and good feel in the hand. The form and function of a daily workhorse with the attention to detail of a custom. Truly one of my favorite knife designs for fit, finish, and flip ability.

Beast is best

This made my really appreciate quality pocket knives, enjoy the flipper fidget factor, and compare all purchases to. Still one of my faves and probably would be the last I would hold on to. Can't beat the button lock, and everything else about the design is the ideal epitome of a pocket knife in my mind. On the larger side, it still feels and carries light and unobtrusive. CPM-20CV, 'nuf said.

Great knife, really bad grind

I just received my black on black Mordax. Really nice knife in all sorts of ways, but the grind is sooo bad and off, ive had 500 SEK (50USD) knives that have a better and sharper grind. Paying 260USD + 100USD of fees to Sweden this was a real let down.

Fantastic knife

The flipper and closing mechanism are fantastic, better than my Malibu. Fits nicely in the hand. I got the milled handle and understand what other reviewers are saying about sharpness, but it doesn’t bother me. I like that it’s not slipping out of my hand. Over all I’d recommend it- I almost want a second one.

I own both and love them both, I was more teasing the person above bc I think they really dialed in their button lock system by having an actual detent feel like on a standard frame lock or liner lock knife. On the mordax the opening isn’t as crisp on the breakaway but it kind of compensates for it by having a much larger heavier blade to still get it open well due to it inherently having a higher inertial value because it has more mass/weight. i guess it just comes down to preference. Ok, one last point I’ll leave u with, since in all likelihood I’m being way too verbose and self indulgent in my response lol. While the milled mordax looked more attractive and I was initially being called by its siren song, once I did some research before pulling the trigger, I came to realize almost every reviewer I watched or read was in agreement that unfortunately the milled variant is not comfortable bc of the milling being too sharp. And now that I’ve had the chance to handle the milled version first hand I’ve got to agree with them. I know u asked this ages ago and I’m probably too late for my response to be of any use to you but I’m depressed and awake so I thought “hey, why not just write an essay about a pocket knife to roll into the void of one of the billion internet comment sections” lol anyway, so how do u like the Mordax? Do you prefer the Malibu or the Mordax and what did u think abt the milling? edit: oh noice, I thought this was a message from months or more ago, glad to know I wasn’t late lol if anything maybe a little too fast of a response, it’s like jeeZ dude get a life…amIRightorwhat?😅

Right away i did notice is has the mushy button lock flipper detent unlike the malibu which does indeed have a much crisper break upon deployment although the Mordax does seem to deploy reliably. I have not disassembled either knife but looking at the button locks they appear to possibly use the same exact button locks so I’m guessing the difference in the detents is milled into the blade tang geometry where it interfaces with the button. Regarding the mordax’s milled handle i had also read about the sharp/hot spots but decided to take the chance since I’m not that fond of the Malibu’s slick aluminum handle nor my other Protech handle, an SNG. I have nothing against aluminum handles as long as they have some type of texture to break up the slick feeling. I have a Cold Steel code 4 which also has this issue and ended up sending it for some hand engraving which worked wonders so I suppose that’s always an option for the malibu. The milling on the mordax handle is good for me until you get to the bottom of the handle which gets thinner where your fingers wraparound and the designer chose cheese grater like 90° blocky milling which is always just a bad choice for a knife handle. If they would’ve not done that part and just left the milled lines throughout it would’ve been much better. I would like to see that on the Malibu actually adding some milling lines for texture sans cheese grater area. I suppose as long as ones not planning on hard using the mordax and just mainly light to medium EDC use it shouldn't present a problem though and it does look nicer than Plain flat AL slabs. I’ve only had the mordax for a few hours and the Malibu for a couple months or so now but i think I do prefer the Malibu and had already decided it will most likely stay in the collection as it does have a lot going for it where as the mordax I’m not so sure yet but they are both quality blades. Ive handled and own many makes/models over the years and there is no such thing as the perfect folder. There are Always compromises and it comes down to how the design and features align with our preferences and what we are willing to overlook and what is a showstopper ultimately.

Even better than I expected, and I expected a lot!

The action and button lock are incredibly satisying. The blue anodizing is beautiful, and much richer than it looks in the photos; it is satiny yet has texture, so it isn't slick feeling. The size and weight hit the Goldilocks spot for me: Not too big, not too small; it's just right. Super sharp out of the box, too. Pro-tech really nailed it.
