What makes this better than the JDS Atom?
Balanced output for better compatibility and channel separation. Lower single ended power, but significant power through XLR, which the Atom does not have.
How do I connect this to my computer? I have an rca cable and I plugged it into the headphone jack of my computer while connecting the red and white cables to the input on the back. When I turn it on I hear a loud static noise.
Headphone jack on a computer is amplified through a typically crappy amp. This is a great amp. Garbage in, garbage out. Get yourself a DAC which will connect to the computer via USB and then connect its output to the THX. There's lots on here to pick from -- Topping, Grace Design, etc.

Hi guys, I've recently bought a Drop + THX AAA 789 Linear Amplifier. I have heard about the auto power-off feature of the unit as something of a cool feature to have as it simply turns itself off after about 6 hours of non-use so that even if you forget to power it down manually, it will do it for you, thus prolonging lifespan and keeping it cool all the time. With that said, I have noticed something bizarre and, dare I say, dumb. It happens whenever I try to listen to music on platforms such as Spotify Watch a movie on the Amazon Prime App on Windows, or simply browse a video on YouTube or stream a TV series on the browser. Every time I pause the music/video or when I backtrack or fast forward, the 789 will simply have no audio until 3 seconds later. I found that to be extremely annoying if it is a built-in feature, if not, then am I wrong to consider it a defect? Anyone who has the Drop + THX AAA 789 has experienced this? I'm talking about playing music or video on a Windows PC specifically as that is what I am using the AMP for. It is connected to a FiiO DAC and into my PC Tower. I tried with other dongles like the Apple one, and it's the same behaviour. Any help or pointers? I am seriously considering returning this purchase, as I pause, rewind/fast forward constantly when listening to music or watching videos and this constant audio drop-off is very annoying.

Reporting a red light of death. Just happened. Went to listen to music, turned up the volume knob, and nothing. Red light is on all the time. Checked the power supply; it's working fine. Unplugged, plugged in. Nothing. Now that I've had this happen, I see that a lot of others have, as well. Anyone look into this. I saw the replacement of the Q4 transistor at the power inlet. Could do. I can work with surface mount devices. I've read reports of burned components. I removed the board to see whether anything was immediately, easily apparent, and did not see any issues. Anything?? It can't be everything that's wrong, and there aren't so terribly many components on the board.

After all the hype and hoo-haa around this amp over the last few years, it looks like the quality was rock bottom and its essentially a disposable item. Very sad to see. I always wanted one of these and came back to order one, but it is discontinued (probably because Drop is losing it's ass on the warranty claims).

Since so many people seem to be posting that theirs died, it's hard to tell what the actual lifespan is for these amps. I wanted to note that my relatively early unit (pre-Drop branding and in use since Aug 2019) is still working. It's been my primary amp and has been powered on almost constantly since I got it. I regularly use the front 4-pin XLR and the 1/4", both usually plugged in at the same time. In the back, I use the RCA in and RCA passthrough.

REALLY NOOBY question as I'm new to this. I want to connect the Drop + THX AAA 789 Linear Amplifier directly to my PC. I' m not sure how to connect it to my PC. My PC has a Line In, Line Out, Mic In, C/SUB and REAR port on the back and I have a Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro so it's a single ended connection. I have a RCA to 3.5mm cable. Where does the RCA cables connect to and what does the 3.5mm cable connect to on the back of my PC?
Also, when the INPUT button is fully pushed in, is that the balanced or single ended input?
Thank you!

dynamo1213112I am connecting it the same way, with the same DT 1990 Pro as my main headphones. All I did was connect it via RCA to 3.5mm into my 3.5mm headphone jack on the front of my PC tower, or the back into the line-out green jack. The RCA cables go into the inputs on the back of the AMP, with red and white ports. If you don't have a 3.5mm headphone jack, then what I also did was get an Apple Dongle, and connect it to my PC via USB-C.

I desgined a simple 3d printable vertical stand if anyone is interested. You'll need to remove the feet for it but they are on screws, so it doesn't damage it. https://www.printables.com/model/376736-drop-thx-aaa-789-headphone-amp-vertical-stand

Just reporting another dead amp, It was working fine, then while trying out some new IEMS I noticed it seemed really quiet, then I got a pair of HD800s and could hardly hear them even with the volume cranked to max on the amp, searched around and saw this is a incredibly common issue with these amps, and apparently drop won't do anything about it, which is very disappointing. I've spent a decent chunk of money on this site, and had previously recommended it to other people for stuff like headphones, but as it stands I will never purchase another thing from this site or recommend it to anyone, since drop won't stand by their products.
