The uniqueness has grown on me, I'm not in the 36mm fanatic watch-analyzer bunch. Tried this on at a jewelry outlet store and it exudes build quality and really jumps out in its presence. Giving this a shameless bump hopefully comes back around, I'd probably pick this up for how unique it is. Agree that it's styling is a little strange, maybe that's why kinda like it. I'd like to see it in the $1200 or less ballpark.
RayFCome to think of it, it wouldn’t be impossible from an engineering standpoint.
Instead of a bezel and a click spring, you could have a series of links, like a chain, on a track of ball bearings. Would be complex as heck, but now that I think about it would be pretty cool.
New requirement for all dive watches - square shaped rotating bezel
Hard no on just the price alone. These are routinely available for sub $1500 on the grey market site. This is definitely a unique looking watch, so I’ve been watching what I think is the same left over batch of these moving around from site to site for at least a year now.
I almost pulled the trigger on a bracelet version a few months ago at $1200ish. I figured I’d wait until they dropped under a grand.
it’s a heavily modified eta movement, so this is going to be a bit more expensive to service than your standard valjoux - $500 vs $350.
I could have sworn that I saw a review of this watch somewhere. The crown at 12:00 with a little door rings a bell. But I cannot find it.
This watch is not on the company's website. (Correction: it is, see below.) Perhaps it didn't sell and has been liquidated, which would account for its presence here on Massdrop.
But there are several other stacked-four-complication round versions of the watch on the maker's site. Apparently they hold a patent on the idea, and the movement is a heavily modified ETA movement with a lot of extra jewels. They had to really do a number on the ETA movement to line up the four complications. The watches look pretty cool.
They are less functional than the standard chronograph layout. but personally I don't consider any kind of chronograph practical or functional. They just look cool. But the stuff is too small for my eyesight and I can never remember how to operate them. And who needs more precision than just looking at the second hand when timing, seriously. Who uses chrono features? They are the equivalent of helium escape valves.
I hear you, Cloaca; I am the same. There is a different type of collector out there that either “invest” (even if just for trading) or use retained value as rationalization and a way of slipping their purchases under their partners’ radar, lol!
Very weird design, gotta recognize the boldness, but not for me. Massdrop should've put another option than panda or reversed panda dials as "cover picture" as those are by far the less legible and most controversial designs. The plan white and plain black are more legible and less "wtf?" Still, not for me...
Exactly! It’s all about design and fashion and paying homage to a 400 year-old mechanical art! Your cellphone clock is far more accurate for timekeeping and chronograph functions, for sure...! I used to collect and review Swiss mechanical (automatic and hand-wound) watches for a distributor. It’s Man Jewelry, like Custom Knives and ‘EDC’ stuff...!
Can Massdrop disclose who the vendor is here? The lack of a manufacturer warranty makes it seem like it's NOT Eberhard & Co.
To be frank, I have no confidence in Massdrop's ability to warrant the functionality of watches at this level, so any explanation or assurances Massdrop could give would be helpful.
KhyronHey there, thank you for your question. Based on our agreement with the vendor of the products, we are able to offer our own warranty which would protect the product in a manner similar to how the manufacturer would.
Vincent.HI appreciate massdrop finally weighing in, but you didn't really address either of my questions. Yes. I saw that you are offering your own 1-year warranty. But I'm pretty sure massdrop doesn't have watch repair people. So it would be helpful to know who would be the ones to do that work. It would also be helpful to learn about where these are sourced from, but I'm sure you're probably not willing to disclose that. I ask, though, because there doesn’t seem to be any U.S. AD for this brand, and that kind of concerns me.
I don't think I've ever seen a watch that ugly. Some big brain thought sticking those sub dials down one side was a good idea. And a MSRP of $8337.00? These people need better drugs.
