Product Description
The CC4 whetstone is designed for honing and finishing folders, fixed blades, kitchen knives, and more. It has two sides: one side made of synthetic sapphires (the dark gray side) for initial sharpening and one super-fine ceramic stone (the white side) to finish off the edge Read More
Great little stone for sharpening and polishing knives! Just to get it out there, this isn't a blunt to razor sharp stone, it's something you'd use for sharpening moderately dull knives to their former glory, and then polishing them with the white side. As you can see, both sides have seen good use and have served me well, and they'll continue to do so. I'd love to have more for my go bag, but for now, one will have to do for all my pocket knives.
I love this stone. I keep it in my kitchen drawer and use it about twice a month. If you're used to using a normal water stone or oil stone it takes a minute to get used to it; I guess it's more like diamond in how it works. Convenient size for small and medium knives, but be careful not to catch an edge with a longer blade.
Very good pocket stone, but a bit misleading grit rating (which is where the 1 star comes out of). I've had a few months experience, and used this stone on a variety of steels, so this is just one guy's opinion.
This is a great stone for fixing very minor dings and final polishing. The black side removes material a lot faster than you would think, and the white side polishes. Overall I was able to get my razor (aka. my opinel) to be able to shave semi-comfortably (needs quite a bit of stropping afterwards). Also, this does not need water, easy to clean, does not seem to clog very easily, came pretty flat, and does not seem to dish out (since it's ceramic, so it wont wear out as easily as a waterstone).
So, this is what is misleading. This is not close to a 1 micron grit rating (although grit ratings are actually very complicated). If I had to guess, the black side is somewhere around 2000 grit waterstone, and the white side is about 6000 waterstone, but it is definitly not near 1 micron. It also finished with a somewhat toothy edge, which was a bit strange on such a high grit rating. But overall I would recommend this for 20$, since it is great for touchups, seems durable, and low maintenance. Perfect for out the home sharpening.
Very well made ceramic stone for polishing and refining
Love how small and compact this stone is and how the high the stone grit is for the price, would highly recommend if you are looking for a nice small finishing stone. The leather pouch it comes in is also very good too use as a leather strop if you have a low micron compound to use with to polish your knife with.

Does not appear to be an authentic Fällkniven stone
The CC4 stones I received appear to be counterfeit, not authentic Fällkniven stones. Fällkniven ships theirs with a thick black leather pouch, with the smooth finish outside and the sueded finish inside (this helps hold the stone in the pouch). The stones I received from Drop came with a synthetic "leather" black pouch, complete with a very weak logo imprint on the front and a defective assembly, where the synthetic sueded finish is *outside* the pouch on the back side. It looks to have been heat-treated somehow to hide it, and is smooth in one direction but rough in another. It smells like vinyl or polyester rather than leather.
The packaging has subtle errors, including the lack of the text, "E-mail:", in front of the email address, unlike the CC4 stone I ordered directly from Fällkniven.
The stone itself has poor quality assembly, off-center vertically, with more corner of the thin, fine, side poking out over the coarse side than is normal for the other Fällkniven stones I own.
If this were a genuine Fällkniven stone, perhaps it would be worth the warranty-free discount and wait time that comes with ordering from Drop. For a stone that appears to be counterfeit ... no thanks.
jmk451I wonder of they shipped you the wrong item, because what I received matches how you say it should have arrived.

If by wrong item you mean "a counterfeit rather than the genuine article", then perhaps yes. But if Drop is inadvertently shipping counterfeits, then they're not acquiring them straight from Fällkniven, which is not in line with the image Drop projects.
Overall it's a great product. Works great putting a quick edge on my daily carry knives. I was slightly disappointed to find the two stones were attached askew to one another. Similarly the case edges we're slightly off. Functionally it's fine, it just takes away from the overall quality feel of the product.
Overall it is a good whetstone to sharpen your knife if it's not completely battered. My only complaint is the size. It's too small to just set on a surface and sharpen. You will have to find a creative way to hold the stone in place while you sharpen.
