I actually owned older version of this and the problem is blade attachment, after dozen pineapples, the weld broke and I have circular part falling from the corer part. I am using plastic one now - cheaper and will never have this problem. People arguing in favor of kitchen knife are correct in mutilation part, you cannot do very ripe pineapple, it will munch it instead of cutting. But firm ones can be done beautifully with this type of tool. And it will take 10 seconds instead of 5 minute. Who have five minute for pineapple?

I was actually given a similar version of this tool and STILL prefer a good ol' chef's knife, because: * I can choose how thick or thin I want the slices/ chunks * I can cut off the left over bits of core these special tools always miss * my knife doesn't mutilate/shred the life out of the pineapple...unlike this type of cutter

Or you could simply use the chef's knife you already have. Chopping up a pineapple takes 5 minutes tops... There are plenty of videos on YouTube
