Lemme give you little help with your marketing methodology, MD. I'm on your site probably 15-20 times a week. Yet, it's always like solving a puzzle trying to divine the price for the "model" or "size" of the products you sell. Just list the specific prices underneath the different model knives you have pictured in this drop for instance. Instead, I have to first "select" a knife and then click on it to see a price. This is true of almost every product you sell, regardless of the numerous choices in size, color, finish. Really time consuming and aggravating for buyers like me.
hsdriverYeah, I don't like actually having to draw up an order just to get the prices. However, I can see the total including shipping and get too scared to finish the order... I suppose that may be a good thing (if my weary wallet could speak).
I can personally attest to the sharpness of these knives, I was working in a kitchen and was cutting a bundle of parsley and lost sight of my finger and sliced the tip of my finger off. Very clean cut, could see bone when the skin flapped back and forth. Barely even hurt, went through my finger like butter.
Hey, don't do that. Accidents happen.
I mean you're alive because of the same reason

thisguyneilHa! I did that about 16 years ago... I was showing a dishwasher how to chop something without slicing off your finger. I remember saying, "...and that is why you keep your thumb behind." That was with an old Wusthof.
Have sharpened a few for customers now. All 3 sets were chipping and all also wanted to chip out during sharpening tried both a Tormek and Dmt stones. With all 3 sets doing the same thing I would tend to think that they treat the steel harder than it can handle or its just a horrible composition.
i use the global sai's professionally, and have used the OG set like this drop aswell.... took a while to get used to non scale solid metal grips and the OG globals are rather thin ... but both are 10 - 15 degree edge... so maybe that will help your sharpening ? good luck... i rather like the global sai 8" chef

Just did another set of Globals labeled G-77 30th anniversary. Used the Tormek on standard aluminium oxide stone same as I have tried on the others, no difference in setup or technique. These didn't blow out which makes it the first set not to do it I have encountered. Maybe they are just not changing grinding belts regularly enough. Who knows.
I've owned the G2 Chef's Knife for about 10 years, originally got it based on Anthony Bourdain's recommendation from Kitchen Confidential, and because I know I won't take care of a wood handle as well as I should. It's performed very, very well, I've only ever had it professional sharpened once and about 5-6 years ago got a Diamond Sharpening Steel that I use here and there. It's not as sharp as some would like but even with hard veg like carrots it and the butt end of butternut squash it's amazing.
Added the GS-37 pairing knife about a year ago and same quality is there.
Picked up the G9 knife bread at this drop, as it's really the only other knife I'd ever see myself needing. Maybe steak knives but honestly, these 3 knives are about all I'll ever use.
Seems like an actual good drop with some substantial savings for a change!
Compared to Amazon, this drop is selling the G-5 vegetable knife for $55 cheaper, and the 4-piece steak knife set for $110 cheaper. I didn't check other models.
I'm so excited, I have the 7" chefs knife already, which when sharpened is a deadly vegetable killing machine. I ordered the meat cleaver and cant wait to use it!!!
I have a couple of Global knives and love them, but it's true that my chef's knife does chip a bit. Still very usable after 5 years or so, though -- I do plan to buy a couple more through the drop, since the prices really are good.
For what it's worth I found out about Global knives because they're recommended in the book Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain.
So why am i unable to find the G12 Meat Cleaver amongst the purchase options?
I have 8 or 9 of these knives, the oldest of which are now 20 years old. Excellent product to date.
skulletThat is correct. Options with at (+$) are in addition to the base price. The same set of 4pc steak knives are on Amazon for $175, they are available here for $110.
Not sure if I'd trust the current quality of these knives. I'd bought a bread knife from them years ago and it's been good, but recent ones have been mediocre and inconsistent. Checked out a few cleavers and they were a disappointment -- if you look at older knives or even their current model pictures, the dimples on the handles are all perfectly even and filled in. But for every knife I purchased recently, there was ugly paint outside the dots, inconsistent sizes, and one cleaver had an odd crack in the base of the handle. Their customer support assured me that I didn't have fakes, so I can only assume that they've cut their quality to keep costs low and revenues higher... Which would also explain why these are available so cheaply on Massdrop, as these prices seem to be as much as 25-40% off in some cases.
