Product Description
Perhaps best known for its 24-hour Airman tool watch, Glycine has been producing timepieces since 1914. Now, with the release of the Double Twelve, fans of more conventional, less pilot-focused designs have something to love about this classic Swiss watchmaker Read More
XmasterWell it is part of their design tradition to add the model name (of which there are a zillion) to that spot on the dial. But here, especially in red, it's a love it or hate proposition.
I wouldn't recommend buying this. The new one is updated with Invicta, a much cheaper brand, and it reflects on the updated watch. Take a look at the classic one and it's quality, the Invicta ones are not so much. It's worth the 50 extra dollars for the original one on like jomashop or something.
seedehI totally agree - I bought a Combat Sub a few months ago and it's nowhere near the quality of my older Combat 6. So bad I thought of returning it, but I gave it some wrist time to see if it was just me. Nope, it's on par with a cheaper Invicta - even Invicta's higher end models are better.
This watch has been at the top of my 'grail' list since it hit my radar months ago. .......But, I've never bought anything on/thru Massdrop before so I have some questions:
I did not see how many units this drop is limited to. I think I have always seen that on other drops . I find myself now on the fence about this watch since in the interim I found another watch I really dig too so I'm trying to gauge how long I have to make a decision between the 2.
Most importantly tho, what exactly does it mean that this watch is 'warranted' by Massdrop? Let's say in a few months after receiving my watch it starts running 2 minutes a day slow, runs intermittently or stops all together....etc..... How does Massdrop handle this? What does the warranty on my end look like?
And, can anyone out there that really knows about servicing movements tell me how does having this Glycine in house adapted eta 2824-2 affect me getting it serviced in the future? Will it be harder to find an appropriate watchmaker? Cost more to get it serviced? Have to be sent back to Glycine for service? Or is the movement just as simple a modified 2824-2 with a Glycine stamped rotor and regulated in house?
Thankx!
DustyTriumphI've had to return two watches (both were Victorinox Ambassador mechanical chronos; they were offered again two weeks ago) because the chronograph seconds hand on both stuttered badly when activated. On both occasions, MassDrop offered to contact the vendor to source a new unit or to refund the purchase price. The first time they were able to secure a new unit, but for the second they couldn't get a new one, so they issued a refund. I don't think they have a repair shop/technician in-house or contract repair work to an outside shop, so exchange/refund may be the only options, at least on watches. Maybe @TomasV can expand on that.
Most manufacturers get ETA to put on a signed rotor and call it a day, and I think that is the case with the GL 224. This one doesn't have a GMT hand, the date appears at three o'clock, as with almost any other ETA 2824, so there is no complicated way (that I can think of) of making the date change (it should change with the minute hand after midnight), so, other than any possible decoration requested by Glycine, this looks like a standard ETA 2824 with a custom rotor.
I'll keep looking to see if I can find something that describes what changes (if any) Glycine made to the 2824.
DustyTriumphHi @DustyTriumph ! We heard back directly from the folks at the factory in Switzerland: Glycine Double Twelve is a regular ETA 2824 with no changes/modifications other than the engraved rotor.

Keep in mind this brand Invicta owns it. I had old glycine. Solid watch. Owned newer Airman 7 and markers were falling off inside the dial. Quality went down in my opinion. Crown issue etc. Watch was expensive junk. The double twelve is cheesy. I would say that's related to its Invicta heritage which is a cheese brand through and through. Only thing more cheese would be Swole o' clock. I mean hell, I think some of the microbrands are way cooler than Invicta.
Watchguy78Bla Bla Bla. And Fiat owns Ferrari, so what? You can say this things, but i've never seen anything to prove that quality went down. On the contrary, people who ordered glycine recently are not complaining.
The only people complaining about new glycine watches are those who own old glycine watches, because it seems they overpaid and some classic airman models can be now bought for 1/3 of the price they've paid. So obviously people would say that old is better, because they are affraid of the value loss.

von_habeAmount paid has nothing to do with my comment. I got deals all around.
The numbers on the bezel should have been 1-24.
Then it would have had all three numeric categories 1-12 / 5-60 / 1-24
Why did Glycine make such a silly mistake?😩
I would have bouught it
As a matter of fact Invicta now owns the brand and distribute them but watches remain same quality as before, suppliers are the same and facilicties where they're made are the same, this may change in the future but today Glycine watches are the same as they were before. Too much desinformation with this, they just "downgraded" the brand but not the watches.
I was talking about the Airman Double Twelve. It was the first thing I said, I own this watch, but in the original (or previous) styling. And as for the quality/brand, well, just one question for you: would you rather drive a Kia or a Mercedes?
vrydrkI recently got a Massdrop Glycine Combat Sub. To say I was disappointed with the quality would be an understatement. It was about what I would expect from Invicta, not Glycine. I have a 2016 Glycine Combat 6 which is much much better quality. The Combat Sub looked great in pictures, but in hand feels really cheap. Sharp edges, chintzy bezel, super stiff band, overly flat case, etc. Not sure if this is a result of Invicta or just the brand cheaping out recently.
Sorry Glycine, but if the watch I got is an indication of the quality of other Glycines, they are not worth $400 - maybe $200, even then, I'd probably pass. Rather spend slightly more on something that feels significantly better or get a second-hand watch of much better quality. A Seiko would be a better choice and cheaper.
Just to let people know, Glycine was recently bought, and the new owners seem to be liquidating remaining stock. This means that these might not be available for long, but also that a better sale might come up soon.
I previously purchased my son the Airman GMT version, which I thought was very good looking. I purchased this version for myself more as a knock-around/water/weekend-day watch with the blue face. I did not like the blue leather strap so I swapped it out for a solid navy blue nylon NATO strap, which looks respectable but not organic. I was a little underwhelmed by the appearance when I received it, but it is acceptable. Not sure I'd pay $450 for it again.
dpj1Don't own the watch, but have been considering it. It doesn't scream 'nam 67 Huey pilot like the original, more of an understated world traveler look . Can't help wondering if a brown leather pilot strap would pop the color.
SnowgooseflightI have a brown leather strap on my Combat 6 chrono which looks great. I could switch it onto this one, but it don’t get the feeling it would be that much better. Here is my striped NATO strap.
