Receive mine today did a quick listening.. this thing is power hungry. I'm using a ifi Zen can and requires max 18db and my DAC volume at 100% This headphone provide the widest soundstage I've heard, yet the mids and vocals are sweet, forward and focused. Some could feel it's abit too forward if you are used to the more relax kind of headphones. The highs are amazing as well. Out performing the ZMF Eikon, the bass is another level especially with the amp xbass turned on. Impact and fast and with lovely sub bass.. at only $1100.00 this is a keeper!

Have been listening to the GL850 for a week and notice some strange things... Most songs sounded amazingly holographic , super wide and deep sound stage. Amazing extension in nearly all frequency even at the 500-750hz this is where something strange occurs.. most songs are amazing I've not hear any headphones that excel in nearly all the frequency range like this however some tracks like Bruno Mars - Leave the door open and tracks with added warmth to the vocals.. they sounded abit boxy and wonky.. I dialed down the 500-750hz by -3db and the wonkiness is gone however the other tracks doesn't sound that good anymore .. this affects about 10% of the tracks I listen to. Do you have similar experience?

Yes !!!! Exact the same experience on some well known tracks. Sound terrible . i totally agree . 90% of the music is unbelievable and close to perfect. When i first realized that, i blamed it to my DAP or you tube.

I got them since maybe two weeks and they sound amazing. Wide.. Punchy...clear... Natural sounding cans. With dekoni nuggets they fit perfect on my head. I discover my music new. Im in love !!

It gets much better after more more hours of burning in. It could be we are just to accustom to V shape tuning. This is more of a W shape tuning.

Overpriced much? At that price you can get the German Made HEDDPhones with the same technology...

The reviews here are mixed. Apparently, the technology is not ready for headphone use and they are very big and heavy for some people. I think I'll wait for a few generations to let them work out the kinks before dropping the $. BDGO recommends a pair of IEMs with bone conduction drivers. Now that sounds interesting to me!

as good as the heddphone sounds I don't think we need another 800 gram dumbbell-shaped neck exerciser, not when planars are getting lighter and better sounding.

Apart from build quality, the GL2000 is immensely disappointing. Yes immensely, that's how bad they are. If you want feel free to check out my GL2K review here: https://drop.com/buy/gold-planar-gl2000-planar-magnetic-open-back-headphones/talk/2785007 I won't expect these to be too different.

I see drop has stopped picking out products for themselves and is just selling whatever BGGAR is using.

A youtube reviewer. He does well. Some attitude in the past, but has chilled out and I would highly recommend nowadays.

More like they both work with Linsoul, lol
Cool product, but Gold Planar is insane with the pricing on these. They’ve placed themselves way to close to the HEDD HEDDPhones which actually have a pedigree. If they put these out for $700-$800 (which is apparently what they sell for in China on taobao) there would be a value proposition there. At this price point I don’t know why would wouldn’t get the HEDDPhone for virtually the same money and get a German engineered product made by people who’ve been working with AMTs for a very long time.

Pricing on drop has nothing to do with Gold Planar. GL850 is about $1100US on their official Taobao store.

Just wanted to say GoldPlanar actually shares pedigree with HEDDPHONE. https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/265690081 *In 1972, ESS Sound System was established in California, USA, and began to produce AMT units. Because the AMT unit must be made by hand and the diaphragm process is complicated, it has been facing the problem of high price and low output, so it is usually only applied to various high-end speaker products. After 2006, the ESS team was divided into two parts. Some members went to Germany and became HEDD Audio under ADAM, and the other part came to China to form the parent company of Goldplanar. As the world's largest manufacturers of pneumatic units, these two companies provide various AMT units for brands that prefer pneumatic tweeters such as ADAM, EVE, and ELAC.*
The AMT tech has been around for the odd 50 years or so, you've only recently seen it in headphones but the tech is quite mature at this point.

I meant in headphones in speakers it's matured but it's new ground for headphones.
