Worth it for $60? You could buy 7-8 of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WD2L13Q.

I understand your skepticism regarding the disparity in pricepoints, but even at a glance the original carabiner seems to have a nicer finish and the construction is better (to my eye, the machining is crisper).
Originally this would have been a relatively rare (and hence cool item). An objects value is often set by supply and demand, so its scarcity (and appeal to a niche market who appreciate industrial design) would mean its cost is relatively high. However the minute Chinese factories step in and inject the market with cheap clones, its value is compromised and challenged – as has been demonstrated here.
You obviously like the design (as you bought the clone) and – originally – the design is where the value is added, by someone spending lots of time to craft something special and unique.
In the interests of disclosure I haven't bought one of these (and the cost is more than I can justify to myself) but I appreciate the thought that's gone into it, and I think it should be possible for artisans to earn a living doing what they love.
You're right on this though: assuming they have the design patented, they should slap a cease and desist on the copier, but I don't know how easy that is in practice.

zerobedienceThis keyring has changed my life. I will no longer fear having to swap out cheap carabiners every few months and dropping my keys in parking lots or other places again. I have one from an Christmas gift, it's worth EVERY DOLLAR.

? This looks virtually identical to the Ti caribiner I just bought on eBay last week from a US seller for $8.75! If you want to wait a couple of weeks you can have one shipped from overseas (assume China) for $4.75 and have it in virtually the same time that this drop would ship. Looks like some one here is trying to scam a sh#t load of money!

None of the Chinese products you listed are particularly cheap though. Essentially you just proved kokin’s point; if you want quality it’s going to cost a pretty penny. No hate, just pragmatism.

TutmanCanadian here, the H1 is worth the money. For something holding my car keys which costs a significant amount and other keys that would be a huge hassle to replace I'm going to invest in the original designer and quality of the handgrey. For 10 years I was cycling through your usual $1 to $7 dollar/hardware store carabiners and the springs all went loose. Since I was gifted the handgrey 3 years ago it has been strong. I have since gifted another one to a friend from massdrop since its like half price compared to buying direct. We also need to support original creators and not keep funding our dependency on China.

I have the H3L and my experience is mostly positive but I don't recommend it to anyone who has to use their keyring a lot. The product is well made and finished but keys can come off too easily imo. While I learned to handle it without worry of dropping things (usually when taking my keys off my loop) it was consistently a problem if anyone (usually my wife) borrowed my keys.
Usually I'd hear a key hit the ground but the last time my car key ended up lost in bag in the trunk for a couple hours of searching. She must have been carrying the my keys by the carabiner in the same hand as her bag and it opened enough to release the key. After that I sadly retired my handgrey.
Maybe the dimensions of the H1 make this less problematic but I don't believe so.

ryan92084It looks like their key ring is fat enough that it wouldn't slip off so easily. Were you using it with a normal key ring?

emaugI was using it with their titanium split rings that came with the carabiner as part part of the Kickstarter.
These split rings are new which is good because they old ones were very weak.

If you want a keychain that you can pass on as a family heirloom for generations then this is probably for you, however if you merely need a keychain that lasts you for a lifetime...

I went through their Kickstarter for the weight of the product... I couldn't find that info - anyone know it or have one to weigh it for me?

Used dollar store carabiners (from everywhere I could find, MEC, Dollarama, Dollar Tree, Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Walmart off water bottles etc) since I was 16, had to replace every few weeks to months as the spring tension would always become loose and the gate wouldnt event align with my keys dropping in parking lots all the time. I watched this H1 model for a long time and put it on my secret santa wish list and was gifted it. It's been going on strong for 3+ years and I'm never looking back. The spring is still as solid as ever and the design captures the key rings perfectly. Since then I have gifted one to another friend purchased from massdrop since it is half the price vs buying direct from the handgrey store. Trust me, this is worth every dollar and cent.

Could these be used as strap ends on a leather messenger bag? I'm thinking of having a new strap made and I really dislike the "spring-type" clip and swivel snap hook on 95% of bags. I realize they won't have the same type of swivel range of motion, just curious if they are of appropriate size/strength. I think they could potentially look great!
