C'mon "drop" $199 is the price this player sells for at the Hiby website (or pretty much everywhere), with immediate shipping. Why would anyone pay the retail price while having to wait over a month just to have their items shipped? I say "Drop" because lately the products offered here are not very attractive in terms of pricing. I feel little by little we're drifting away from what Massdrop once was.

The Saber went for $209 and the same kind of discussions went on in that thread that are here too. (That it’s the same price on amazon, why should they buy here, etc. ) For what it’s worth, I did find the $25 in rewards compelling enough to purchase it here, after reading good reviews for it. (Zeos of Z Reviews had favorable things to say about this Pro version in a video which also helped me make my decision. ) I like the fact that it’s just a music player and doesn’t run Android. I’m coming from a old iPod Video running RockBox so this will be a nice upgrade for me. 😉

StariusGood point, I think I'll go for the Pro Saber, a friend of mine bought the R3 Pro, so we can compare.

Serious question: How do you sell a device like this and not mention either its physical dimensions or the dimensions of the display ANYWHERE? Like I get this isn't a smartphone where the display is necessarily a focus or selling point. But at least it'd give me a rough idea of the product's size if the exact dimensions aren't given (they aren't).

It should be noted that I purchased this R3 in March of 2019, and the battery no longer holds a charge. I'm hoping for better luck with the R3 Saber that's on it's way from China.

Haha thanks, but I personally really had no interest in this product. I just thought it was wild that something like this would be marketed without indicating the physical dimensions of either the body or the display. Hope this helps someone though :P

What's the current "best in class" DAP in this price range that is Android based (i.e. Spotify capable). I know this makes me not a true audiophile but I gave up long ago trying to maintain a "physical" library.

Thanks. It's nuts now - Used Hiby R6's are going for more than their original MSRP, unless you'll settle for a damaged one. This entire chip shortage thing has led to utter madness.

KestrelXWhere I am, a used R6 goes for about half its MSRP. It's a decent upgrade considering the how smooth the OS is.

This is a great little player. I actually own this one and the original stainless steel R6, and I play the R3 Pro more often. I find Android more of a distraction than an enhancement in a DAP, but I had to learn that after paying for the R6 ;) I've also had to ship the R6 to China for repairs twice already. I haven't owned the R3 Pro for as long as the R6, but I also haven't had any hardware issues with it in the time I've owned it. Anyway, great device, just not necessarily the best price here.

silverthornneSame as me. I thought I was unlucky, but your testimony make me feel a little bit better, and also worried if I’d have to send my New R6 for repair for a second time. I also own both and absolutely agree with you.

Will the units actually be available? On Hiby's own website they're marked as out of stock.

KealsThat's because it came out in 2017 🤣 It's like drop is getting leftovers found socked away in the back of an abandoned warehouse and selling them 🤣

nartacusYour best bet is something like a Hiby R5 of whatever flavor you can actually find, a Shanling M3x (I have one en route now), or an iBasso dx160. Any of these is close to double the cost of the R3 Pro, unfortunately, but they should also be more capable devices in general.

What’s with all the tiny drops? $10 bucks off if you want to wait a month?

ElsidI’m not sure why, but Drop has fallen off almost entirely. What used to be an amazing site rich with good deals for people of various hobbies and interests is now just another online marketplace to buy pretty much exclusively audio gear and keyboards. I would maybe be okay with it if the deals were even better, or if they pumped out an equivalent of content, but overall it’s just gotten to be pretty lame. First time on this site in about 2 months and I am extremely disappointed and likely won’t be back.

ElsidDrop has shifted its model to "credits" now it seems: pay nearly full price now, wait a month, and get actual discount for next purchase. It's awful.
