add: don't carve on your lap. If you cut your femoral artery, it can be fatal. I use a lap board I designed & made for lap carving. For very fine detail work, I occasionally wear a Kevlar (cut resistant) glove I purchased from Amazon.
I've been interested in this set for awhile. I have a modest set of verrry tiny chisels and gauges, which are all pretty worse for wear.b
It looks like this drop has increased, though, from prior offerings? I think I saw someone mention the scent costing them $104? Now it's up to $120?
Anyone who owns this set, would you say $120 still makes this a solid deal worth picking up?
TacotimeI'm still on the fence as well, for the same reasons. I have a small set of carving chisels, but this set looks nicer, but for the price I'm not sure I do enough carving lol
If it include a hook knife that would probably nudge me in the direction of the buy button, as that's something I don't have yet
Regarding the pricing... $104 was a year ago, not much hasn't gone up in price in a year's time. And it also looks like people were paying $104 plus shipping then, vs $119 with free US shipping now. So, still has gone up a little, but not as bad as it seemed at first
Questions for anyone who has this set:
1. How good is the fit and finish?
2. How sharp are they and did they need much work to polish and finish before use?
3. How well do you think they would fit in large hands (XL glove size)?
Thanks for your input!
gaknak1. Fit and finish better than illustrated and discrided.
2. As sharp as my #11 exacto blades, teac handles are also well finished..
3. I also wear xl work gloves and the handles fit my hands well all in all a well made high quality set an excellent value.
Don't know anything about wood working, are these tools for carving small furniture and joints--like small boxes ect, wood sculptures or more for wood reliefs?
lobsterI recognize some of these tools from a few wood carving classes I took last year. We used a curved knife similar to the one in the middle to carve spoons -- and a more traditional knife to carve butter knives in a separate class. Each class was only a few hours long but I was addicted for a while and carved a few more spoons and knives for fun at home.
