Taking the traditional smartphone dongle to new heights, IKKO’s Zerda ITM03 is an ultra-portable DAC/amp with impressive sound quality. Made of aluminum alloy with an OCC silver-plated wire shielded in silicone, it weighs less than half an ounce and connects via USB-C or Lightning depending on the model selected. On the other end, a two-in-one output offers 3.5-millimeter audio or fiber optic signal to accommodate different setups. In between, Cirrus Logic’s flagship CS43198 DAC chip supports up to 32-bit, 384-kilohertz PCM decoding and DSD128 decoding, while an adaptive drive automatically adjusts onboard impedance from 16 ohms up to 600 ohms to drive any pair of headphones. With a THD + N well below 0.0015%, the Zerda ITM03 is both quiet and clean, delivering remarkable “bass punch, detail midrange, and smooth yet sparkly treble,” according to a 5-star review by Head-Fi contributor Audio Fun.
