Designed for mountain bikers, the Stunt sunglasses come from Julbo: a French company that’s been making athletic eyewear for more than 125 years. Providing comfort and security on technical terrains, these glasses feature a wraparound design that creates a wide field of vision for better clarity while riding. Slim GripTech temples create a firm hold and can be worn under a helmet, while the curved arms keep the glasses firmly in place when things get rough. Finally, the nose pads are coated with a shock-absorbing rubber that prevents the frame from bouncing or being lifted up by the wind.
Note: At checkout, choose the matte black/black frame with polarized 3+ lenses (base price) or the gray/yellow frame with Zebra Light lenses (+ $20). This drop has limited quantities available.
The polarized 3+ is a category 3 lens with a VLT of 3 to 8 percent, made to protect your eyes from glare reflecting off flat horizontal surfaces (like water or snow). Its black and gray tint darkens bright sunlight and neutralizes color contrasts. The Zebra Light is a category 1–3 lens with a VLT of 16 to 80 percent. It features a non-temperature-sensitive coating that transitions from light to dark and dark to light in about 25 seconds.
Named after its founder, Jules Baud, Julbo has its roots in the Jura region of France, dating all the way back to 1888. Baud started out designing optical eyewear, and at the request of crystal hunters braving the mountains of Chamonix, began making protective sunglasses for the most extreme conditions. In the 1950s, the company revolutionized the market with the Vermont glacier sunglasses, built for mountaineers conquering the highest peaks in the world. And that’s exactly where Julbo tested its products—on 8,000ers like K2, Gasherbrum II, Broad Peak, and Nanga Parbat, among others. In the ‘90s and early aughts, Julbo expanded its line to include a wide range of sports and terrains, and today it even makes eyewear for children.
