Just released and already the subject of much excitement on Head-Fi, the Kinera H3 in-ear monitors offer an impressive value. They feature three drivers—two balanced armatures and one dynamic—in a configuration that’s unheard of for an IEM of this price Read More
depending on preferences... if you're looking for a tuning that's high on clarity and want to pick up the subtle nuances of hi-res audio files, then at $74, this is a definite steal.
i have the Fiio F5, F9, F9 Pro, FH1, TFZ Series 5 and 5S, Nuforce EDC to name a few... run them either straight off an LG V20, or sometimes with an amp... but this beats them all in terms of clarity on the high end treble registers.
Bought my H3 (red) at Aliexpress for $ 99 but they are well worth it.
After 150 hrs of burn-in... the trebles tamed at bit, and the bass has its slam but controlled in a way that doesn't muddy the mids. But its characteristic is the clarity which cuts through the mix like butter.
Matter of preference at the end of the day but its well worth it being part of anybody's collection.
Cheers!
NielJMI'm new to IEMs, and previously I've just used shitty headphones when listening to Spotify on my phone. But these look great, and my B&O ones just broke (I rolled over them with my computer chair ;_;). Would these be a good replacement for my old B&O H3s?
nalixorI honestly can't comment as I have not tried any of the B&O line. But for casual listening purposes, I don't think I would recommend these as the Kinera H3 is leaning towards a more treble forward presentation, which a casual listener might find fatuiging. But then again, it all boils down to personal preference.
So for those that are interested - Kinera is about to launch a promo deal on their aliexpress store page: https://kinera2017.aliexpress.com/store/3102002 in which H3 will be available for $79 with free shipping. It sure beats massdrop's offer considering you won't have to wait until mid November for your item to actually get shipped.
So many complaints, why even order these? Lousy QC, and delayed shipping with no word from the staff? how’s the sub-bass? Thinking for movies on the plane while I travel.
Just want to clarify further tho, I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the link to your review. Very helpful and informative indeed. And I really liked that you stated your preferred sound signature near the beginning etc. Put everything into good context etc. The mechanics were just a side note, but the content was thorough and well-written to say the least. Thanks for the contribution and helping the community with your hard work buddy!
ChumbWumbaAh, I see. I'm glad you enjoyed that review and found it helpful! That's what I was going for when I started writing it. Anywho, happy listening!
Thank you for that comment, Chomiq.
I have also read a rumour that Kinera X Massdrop might be in the works.
So I may try to wait on purchasing a second pair, if that is the case.
As noted below in my review, I REALLY like these IEMs.
It's hard to resist picking up a second pair.
Right now, I am looking at possibly purchasing a pair of Rose Tech. Marguerites, the build looks very nice and, while limited, I have read that they sound excellent.
ChomiqThanks much!
I am DEFINITELY going to check it!
Really interested to see what's in store for the v.2 now.
The rumoured Massdrop X H3 is a tantalizing idea.
Hi, How do the Kinera H3 IEM's compare to the TFZ EXCLUSIVE 5 or the Magaosi K3 HD?
I cannot decide between them. I have the TFZ Series 5S. Are the Kinera H3's an upgrade to these?
I also have the Senheisser momentum in ear, KEF M200, Audio Technica IM50, and various other models of TFZ (cheaper ones), and some kind of illness that keeps me spending money on earphones.
I have way more many earphones than ears at this point!. Crazy I know.
Really quick impressions post-up of the Kinera H3, just in case they drop them again;
Have had these for a couple of weeks now, gave them a thorough run-in.
Have not really spun through my standard musics list for device reviews.
However.
I can say, ABSOLUTELY, that these are the most comfortable UIEMs I have ever experienced.
They have the form and fit styled after some of the most popular CIEMs on the market today, and it feels like it, in the ear.
After appropriate run-in, one experiences a very balanced sound table, mids and highs are very clear and sweet, with a very nicely present bass that is not bloomy or overwhelming in any way.
They are fast enough to present the low ranges happily and with excellent detail, no muddying of the bass, but rather a fairly clean/crisp presentation with a bit of nice muscle when necessary.
Mids and trebles are airy and not at all strident- rather one hears a decent enough separation, that is not particularly present in most IEMs.
The SS is definitely V-shaped, but, IMO, not horrible about it. It's a more shallow V than many I've experienced.
These are built using 2 balanced armatures and 1 dynamic driver, an assembly rivalling that of some "higher end" IEMs.....which begs the question of just how much some of these other IEMs really need to cost.
The cables are about as tangly as any, really, are made from 2 copper and 1 silver braided wire encased in a low-microphonics plastic with soft-yet-stiff covering to give an ear-hook that seats them nicely in the ear canal, and allows adequately for under-chin or behind-the-head wear. Isolation is VERY VERY good. Very nearly as deep an isolation as have the Echobox Finders. And with a better sound. I like how stable the 2-pin removable cables are on each monitor, I think the 2-pin build is inherently more satisfactory than the MMCX found on the MEE P1 and the NuForce Primo8; many folks have been experiencing a wonky fit of the MMCX on the right phone of the NuForce, myself included, which has me not using them because it's too fiddly to be worth bothering about. No such issue with these, and a replacement cable can be had for 29 USD.
I like these better than the MEE P1 Pinnacles , The NuForce Primo8's,(see reason above), the RHAs, and my Westone4's... and they give the Shure 535's a run for their money. In some ways they sound better and more lucid than the Shures.
This is one of the few IEMs that I wear OFTEN, as I generally prefer full-sized cans and speaker listening*.
I am currently weighing the decision to buy another pair of these, vs. the Rose Technology "Margaret", which falls into the same bracket as these, being model-ed on the CIEM build style. (If anybody has tried the Rose, I'd love to hear input on that here.)
Take-away; A nice, COMFORTABLE UIEM with a CIEM style and comparable fit,(for some), that sounds and looks much nicer than it's price point at 99 bux USD suggests.
I hope they drop these again, the 84 USD was a nice discount on them and I will have no trouble joining that drop if it happens.
* I don't buy more expensive IEMs just because I won't really use them enough to validate the outlay.
TiffanyPoodleslideThank you for the review! Could you please elaborate on how they are different from the MEE P1? I have P1, but these look so awesome that I want them too XD
iatsbohdanThe MEEs have a more flat, clinical sound sig, these have a more V-shaped SS. I tend to go toward the flat, as I like to have what the performance says in my ear, will use EQ to change it, if I need to.
Th Kineras are SO COMFORTABLE, with a lovely clarity, that I forgive the V-shape SS, accept the more "fun" SS, and tend to wear them more often, simply beause the comfort quality tends to win the day with me.
I think I am finding them a bit less "fiddly" than the MEEs as far as wear goes too. 2-pin connect vs. MMCX.
Again, comfort factor.
For me, IEMs aren't really for SERIOUS music listening. I will either use excellent full-sized, high imp. cans, or higher end room-rigs, for that.
So a more fun SS is kind of right for IEMs in my book.
You should try them, I think you will REALLY like them.
Your ears will, that's for sure.
If MEE had this same comfortable custom-style to the Pinnacle, I'd be all OVER that!
inifistInstrument separation seems to be pretty good, through various styles of music. I don't really hear any congestion. Imaging is fairly good, too., but I am only about an hour into them.
My initial impression is a solid bass, decent to good vocals, treble which is not grating, with some sparkle (song dependent), and a seemingly taller than wider sound stage. Decently wide, though. Hope this helps.
I'm interested in the Kinera H3 IEMs but have a few questions. I'll be looking to use these with an Oppo HA-2SE. Ultimately I've been saving for a pair of Cardas A8s, and wondering if I should jump on this for the value, or hold onto my money.
Currently I'm using a pair of Hifiman RE-400s. I intend to keep these for my office, and the second pair will be for home/travel use. I freakin' love the RE-400s. Very neutral and controlled. I'm not huge on bass. I prefer a sound signature that's laid back and has a nice balance of lows through to the highs. I don't mind bass presence, but it has to be controlled. If not, I prefer more revealing mids and highs.
Anyway, my questions are... Should I hold onto my money, and keep saving for the A8s (retail $299)?
Also, I have pretty small ears and ear canals. This isn't an issue with the RE-400s, and seems the A8s accommodate small ears nicely, but can anyone who owns a pair of H3s share how these fit?
Thanks everyone!!!
Cheers,
MD
boMDThese definitely wouldn't be in your wheelhouse. Not very laid back (vibrant treble), plenty of low end, recessed mids (lower mostly). They fall into that "fun" sounding v-shaped category. Here's a pic of how they fit as well.
