Any idea why international shipping is so expensive for this ($20)? For example, the GG Crown X60, which is much larger and heavier to ship costs only $15...
AnyColourYouLikeYah ive never ordered from mass drop. I didnt k ow that they would sell out. Been looking for a new pad for a while and this was perfect for the price for me but oh well lol.
Looks great! I just wish they were avialable in a "tall" version... (I'm 200cm and my sleeping bag _does_ unfortunately absorb moisture with "feet on the ground" ;-)
Great pads. Worth 40 dollars easily. HOWEVER, unless you're really picky about color. You can find these cheaper at Amazon or Costco relatively frequent, for $30.
MickifreeI think the costco version has a much more basic screw-on valve though. If you want to get a firm pad, I would think the regular valve would be considerably easier to use. https://www.klymit.com/valves
jellisiiOh, you're right. I have both the regular and the twist/pull, they both function very similarly. The regular valve still lets you push the valve so that way you can prevent air from escaping while you draw in a breath.
I have the non-insulated version, and its definitely the most comfortable backpacking pad I've slept on in 30+ years. I'm a side-sleeper that thrashes around a lot at night and I tend to stay put and sleep much better on this pad. One note regarding insulation - the deep channels in these bags tend to allow bags to "loft down" below you and therefore provide a slight advantage. However, this works against you if you're using a quilt or ultralight "bottomless" sleeping bag - the deep channels create air gaps that allow cold air to circulate. Therefore I don't recommend it for a quilt or bottomless sleeping bag user. One last thing I'll add - I recently slept in 30º - 45º weather in the back of my F-150 (aluminum bed) on my uninsulated Static V and a 20º bag and felt the cold being sucked out from below me while trying to sleep. The aluminum bed acts as a heat sink and without any insulation, the Static V just wasn't warm enough. I threw a big piece of thick cardboard under me in the middle of the night and was fine after that. I'm now buying the insulated version. The prices fluctuate wildly on Amazon (the insulated Static V in RealTree camo goes from $52 to $90 day-to-day sometimes.
I read that the recon was made to go directly on the ground. The material is heavier. My son has the V2, the material is lighter but really tough. He's a teenager and it's survived many trips including the AT section hike.
This is an old question, but I know the answer so I'll respond for others sakes. The difference between pads is either material or size. The recon pads are the coarser 75d material. The v2 have mixed material on top and bottom. The lite pads have the finer 30d material, but are also narrower.
